  • GlobeScan’s latest global research shows that social license to operate is uneven and fragile across the economy.   Industries most closely associated with meeting essential human needs earn the strongest societal reputations. Agriculture ranks highest globally, followed by technology, healthcare, and food. These sectors benefit from clearer alignment with public expectations around well‑being, security, and progress.   But even the leaders operate on thin ground. The highest‑rated sectors achieve only modestly positive scores, while most industries cluster around the middle. This signals that public approval is often conditional easily earned and easily lost.   At the other end of the spectrum, oil, mining, and spirits continue to face entrenched skepticism. In these sectors, negative and positive views are nearly balanced, resulting in persistently weak social license that is difficult to rebuild.   In a low‑trust era, social license is not given it must be continually earned. For most sectors, small shifts in behavior, visibility, or controversy can meaningfully change public perceptions.   Learn more and download the chart from our website here: https://lnkd.in/g9fnvp6V

Here are my reflections from my time at the first ever Mumbai Climate Week. Over the past few days, had the privilege to present at a pre-climate week event and attend some great sessions at the climate week. (Views based based on my personal experience). What worked? 1. Involvement of the Maharashtra Govt - It was clearly evident that they wanted to walk the talk. Good representation from the Govt stakeholders and not just as audience, but active participants across panels. 2. Smooth logistics - The choice of the venue was great. Everything at one place (No running around), with all the required infra. (Could actually become a major USP of this event). Registration felt pretty seamless. No cost of registration for the sessions meant there were young entrepreneurs and possibly students as well. 3. Varied POVs - Stakeholders who had different expectations from the panels. A good mix of Government, Business, Think tanks, Civil society, Start-up eco-system. Not just the private sector addressing the private sector 4. No ‘One-size fits all’ - A great dilemma was to choose between the different types of sessions on offer (Large plenaries, Breakout rooms and focused intimate discussions) 5. Curation of topics - Having a wide range of hosts was a great call with each knowledge partner bringing their A-Game to designing the panels. The focus was pretty much what is needed right ‘now’ and how do we solve it rather than a 2050/60 blur. Limiting the agenda to three themes helps. 6. No AI overkill - Sessions were not force-fitted with the AI narrative and it just felt right of how it was integrated as appropriate across the panels What could possibly be improved for 2027? 1. Tracking - It was very difficult to keep a track of the sessions and race against time (even for panelists on multiple panels). An app or webpage to track the sessions chronologically in addition to theme-wise would've been a great addition! 2. Design of the panels - Let’s just agree 6 panelists (Plus a moderator) for a 1 hour session is just a no-no. I saw a panel with 9 too. It may not be the best use of the great minds assembled. 3. Plastic bottles aplenty at the biggest climate conference of the country, this is not really setting a great example is it? Delegates would’ve happily accepted temporary water coolers 4. The outcomes - I am hoping there would be follow-up discussions for some of the complex discussions that were held and were to be halted abruptly. These would be needed to convert ambition to action. These minor glitches were expected. Everyone working behind the scenes do deserve kudos! The baseline has been set. I am confident the Mumbai Climate Week will come back bigger and stronger next year. Hope it gets more impactful as well! GlobeScan | Project Mumbai | #MumbaiClimateWeek2025

Are Americans aligned with reversing the EPA’s Endangerment Finding? Reversing the EPA’s Endangerment Finding would mean the U.S. government no longer formally recognizes greenhouse‑gas emissions as a threat to public health and welfare, weakening the legal foundation used to regulate harmful emissions. Public opinion suggests this move would run counter to Americans’ expectations of government. GlobeScan research shows that eight in ten Americans say the federal government is responsible for addressing climate change, with a majority assigning it “a great deal” of responsibility. This expectation cuts across political lines: even the majority of Republicans agree that government has a role to play. At a time when Americans view climate change as a direct risk to health and safety, a retreat in federal protection risks leaving people feeling exposed. As government capacity and authority weaken, expectations do not disappear; they shift. In this context, businesses face heightened scrutiny and expectations. Investing in emissions reductions and supporting climate regulation offers companies an opportunity to demonstrate leadership, respond to public concern, and build trust at a moment when confidence in protection is under strain. Recorded fresh from the 2026 World Economic Forum in Davos, Chris Coulter, David Grayson CBE, and Mark Lee discuss the state of the world and the sustainability agenda at the beginning of 2026. In this episode of the All In - The Sustainable Business Podcast, they unpack global polling that reveals rising societal polarization, widening inequalities, both hyper‑global and hyper‑local and a worrying erosion of trust in democratic institutions. 🔗 Stream it here: https://lnkd.in/ecuNuDk2 🎵 Listen on Spotify: https://lnkd.in/emsEpYPH 🎧 Listen on Apple Podcasts: https://lnkd.in/eMMBB6_u ▶️ Watch on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/eefXZBbD #WEF #Davos2026
