"Give Permission. Give Recognition. Give Example. By doing these consistently we can create space for others to shine and become inspiring leaders ourselves." The latest "PeopleTalking" column, authored by Alex Kogay-Vexelman, HR Manager at CPHR BC & Yukon, reflects upon the March 4 International Women’s Day National Event that brought together CPHR members from across the country. Layne "The Auctionista" and Sheena Russell shared their stories and insights before easing into a candid fireside chat that felt more like a conversation between two close friends. Their messages of authenticity and belonging served as a dose of inspiration for how we can continue to recognize and empower others by leading through example. Can a single spark transform workplaces and fuel growth? Certainly! Under the theme of Spark, attendees of this year's HR Conference & Expo are invited to explore how imagination can illuminate transformation and envision how HR leaders can channel that energy into human-centred change that leaves a positive and lasting impact. As a prelude to their sessions, some of the speakers have penned articles about how you can capture that spark and let it light the way forward: ✨ When Email Removes Your Tone, Replace It with Control (Ivan Wanis Ruiz, Founder of Public Speaking Lab) ✨ Communicating Total Rewards in a New Era of Transparency (Hannah Wells, VP of Client Strategy & Consulting at White & Gale Consulting Inc.) ✨ Well-Being Is Not Culturally Neutral: What HR Needs to Unlearn (Lena BouSaleh, Lead Equity Strategist at Edified Projects) ✨ Beyond the Blanket Approach: Distinctions-Based Well-Being, a Métis Case Study (Alicia Hibbert, Managing Partner at Elevate Workplace Learning) ✨ The Hidden Burnout Crisis Among Leaders & the Cost of Speed (Shauna Moran, BA Psych, PCC, Founder of Shauna Moran Coaching) Read their articles here: https://lnkd.in/gjFS-Cyh #CPHRBCY #CPHRBC #HRCONF2026 CPHR BC & Yukon

Lots of talk about toxic leadership right now. This is what ~250 HR leaders said at the CPHR BC & Yukon Future Ready Series yesterday: Top psychosocial hazards at work: 1. High workloads 2. Poor leadership behaviours Wow leaders must be overwhelmed! Yes partly true. But poor #leadership doesn’t persist only because of workload. It persists because it’s tolerated. So what’s tolerated → becomes culture. Most organizations try to fix this with training but far fewer address: ~what the system creates ~and what the organization allows This is the work we often step into: getting leadership #teams aligned on what matters and addressing what undermines #trust and performance.
