In large retail environments, small hardware failures can have outsized impact. For one of Canada’s largest fuel and convenience retailers, device issues tied to car wash monitoring were creating a steady stream of service calls. Each outage meant closing a high-margin service, disappointing customers, and increasing pressure on store staff and IT teams. The pattern was clear. The existing multi-component setup had too many failure points and was difficult to support across more than 260 locations. Continuing with short-term replacements would only extend the cycle. Working with Compugen as a Technology Ally, the retailer chose a more strategic path. Together, the teams simplified the design, moving to a single-device monitoring platform with fewer connectors and a more straightforward installation model. The goal was reliability, serviceability, and consistency at scale. Compugen then delivered a coordinated national rollout, handling vendor coordination, procurement, configuration, asset tagging, warehousing, and field deployment. Devices were staged and shipped in line with the rollout schedule, reducing complexity for the customer’s internal teams. The results were measurable. Within weeks of completing the deployment, support and replacement requests for the new devices dropped to zero. Compared to the previous average of 11 service events per month, the improvement was significant. More car washes stayed open, customer frustration decreased, and field and IT teams faced fewer urgent disruptions. This project is now viewed as a model for how the retailer can approach other distributed technologies. Standardization, clear planning, and strong execution created a more stable operating environment and a better foundation for future retail innovation.
