  • What really matters when choosing a retirement community? From our many interviews with residents and family members, it's more than just comparing suites or costs. In this Comfort Life interview, Margaret Rousseau shares how her mother's life changed after moving into The Briton House in Toronto. In particular, her comments about what helped her mother feel settled, supported, and safe are particularly important for others to hear. Firsthand experiences like Margaret’s help bring clarity to a difficult and deeply personal decision. • Has the senior living industry become too "transactional"? Pamela Starr, the principal of Say it to Seniors, dropped by our booth at #TogetherWeCare2026 Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA) to share with us some of her thoughts in the video below. (Closed captions available) In a sector shaped by growing demand, it can be easy for the experience to become too transactional. More leads. More calls. More forms. More follow-up. Here are some of our thoughts after listening to her: Behind every inquiry is a family navigating one of the most emotional decisions of their lives. A daughter worried she's making the wrong choice. A husband trying to do right by his wife. A person wondering if they're ready to leave the home they've known for 40 years. That is something we see every day at Comfort Life. Families come to Comfort Life not just to find options, but to better understand them. They are looking for clarity, reassurance, and trustworthy information that helps them ask the right questions and move forward with more confidence. That is why thoughtful guidance matters. What Pamela shared with us is a good reminder that behind every search engine result and every click, is a person, a family.

  • AI is transforming senior living faster than ever. But the smartest leaders in the industry aren't betting on technology alone. They're doubling down on something AI can never replace. We chatted briefly with Nicole C., Regional Manager of Sales & Marketing at Delmanor Communities, at #TogetherWeCare2026. After 17 years in the retirement living sector, Nicole sees the wave of AI and technology reshaping the workforce every day. And she's embracing it. She believes the communities that thrive won't be the ones with the most sophisticated tech. They'll be the ones that use technology to amplify the human connection — not replace it. Nicole talks about the G.E.M.s framework: Gratitude — leading with thankfulness in every interaction Empathy — truly understanding the people you serve Mindfulness — being intentional in everything you do This resonates well beyond Delmanor's 7 communities across the GTA. The data backs it up. The baby boomer generation entering senior living in 2026 are the most technologically fluent generation to date, and communities are integrating technologies such as AI-driven fall detection, passive health monitoring, and smart-home controls. But even as AI automates more of the operational workload, the AI era will place a new premium on valuable human skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, and genuine human connection. In other words: technology handles the task. People create the trust. What do you think?

  • Ontario's senior population is set to grow from 3 million to 4.6 million. There are already 39,000+ people on the long-term care waitlist. Building more capacity is one thing, but we also need to innovate through this trend. Because as demand grows, families need more than availability. They need confidence. They need clearer information, better support, and trusted guidance to help them understand their options and make informed decisions. That is where Comfort Life plays an important role. At Comfort Life, we help families discover, compare, and better understand retirement living options through independent, in-depth content designed to support real decision-making. And by helping families ask better questions, we also help shine a light on the ideas, innovations, and leadership shaping the future of senior living. We also took the chance to chat with Lisa Corrente from Torkin Manes LLP, co-chair of their Residential Care Facilities Group, and a seasoned advisor to LTC and retirement homes at the #TogetherWeCare2026 conference. Her take: the sector's next chapter will be defined by innovation and collaboration between care homes, retirement communities, and government ministries. Here's why that matters right now. A global shortage of qualified PSWs and nurses is making it harder to keep pace with rising demand. The oldest age groups are growing fastest (Ontario's 85+ population alone is expected to more than triple over the next two decades). More beds are coming. But beds without smarter systems behind them won't be enough. This is where technology enters the picture. Wearable health monitors, AI-assisted predictive alerts, smart medication dispensers, and voice-activated home controls are becoming essential tools in caregiving. When you pair these tools with deeper collaboration between operators and ministries, the impact multiplies. Watch our short conversation with Lisa below. (Closed captions available). What do you think? What role is technology playing in your community today? Tell us below.

We’re looking forward to attending the Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA) Together We Care Conference next week in Toronto. This annual event brings together leaders and experts from across Ontario and Canada to explore how retirement living continues to evolve — and how the sector can build an even better future for seniors. At Comfort Life, we spend every day creating tools, resources and guides that bring clarity and confidence to adults and their families as they research retirement living options. As a trusted consumer guide in this space, we’re always looking to surface the ideas, innovations, and leadership shaping the future of senior living. That’s why our team will be at Booth #410 speaking with delegates for our Voices of Leadership feature — a series of short video clips highlighting the planning, research, and innovation behind today’s retirement communities. If you’re attending, stop by and share your perspective: - What makes your community unique today? - How are resident needs and expectations changing? - What are you doing now to create an even better future for seniors? We’ll be sharing these insights across Comfort Life channels, including social, email, www.comfortlife.ca, and our October Comfort Life magazine. We want to highlight the people and ideas helping shape more thoughtful, responsive, and transformational senior living experiences for Canadian seniors. Come speak with us on Tuesday at Booth #410. • Change is hard—but with change comes opportunity. 87% of families say they wish they started their senior living search earlier. Why? Because waiting too long often means fewer options, rushed decisions, and added stress during an already emotional time. Here’s what we’ve learned from thousands of Canadian families: 1. Start the conversation early—before there’s a crisis 2. Visit communities—what looks good on paper may feel different in person 3. Think long-term—choose a place that can support evolving needs 4. Ask the right questions—don’t be afraid to ask twice You’re not just choosing a place to live—you’re choosing peace of mind (and a whole community of new friends). Find clarity. Make the right choice.
