Founded in 1983, CMC lowers the cost and complexity of technology adoption by creating and sharing platform technologies including access to state-of-the-art design, manufacturing, and testing capabilities. CMC enables research, development, and the training of highly qualified personnel (HQP) for an international network of over 11,000 researchers and more than 1,200 companies developing innovations in advanced technologies. IEEE Quantum Week 2026, formally known as the IEEE International Conference on Quantum Computing and Engineering (QCE26), will convene #global leaders from academia, industry, government, and the startup ecosystem to accelerate the transition of quantum technologies from research to real-world deployment. Hosted in Toronto from September 13–18, 2026, the event emphasizes multidisciplinary collaboration across quantum computing, quantum AI, quantum networking, photonics, sensing, software engineering, and post-quantum cybersecurity. 💡 Researchers at the University of Waterloo’s Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) have created a new material that can capture light and control the location of its absorption with unprecedented precision. This breakthrough could pave the way for next-generation light detectors to be used in quantum technologies and biomedical imaging. “We are leading globally at taking a crack at this; combining material science and semiconductor physics to demonstrate a near-perfect absorber,” says Sasan V.
