This week’s Community Foundations of Canada | Fondations communautaires du Canada Board meeting in Calgary felt like a tapestry, where voices from every corner of the country wove together in conversation, reflection, and care. Our brillant co-CEOs, Andrew Chunilall, CPA, CA, ICD.D and Andrea Dicks, ICD.D prepared thoughtful and strategic discussions. My fellow board members, representing the richness of Canada’s diversity, from coast to coast, asked hard questions, exercised rigour, shared wisdom and listened with empathy. It is a rare gift to be part of a space that nurtures the beautiful tension of differing perspectives, knowing that this is how community is made. Audre Lorde reminds us: “It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences.” In a moment when fractures can feel close at hand for our great country, I’m grateful to be part of a national network that chooses belonging… and chooses it again and again. Le changement climatique est déjà en cours et ses répercussions négatives affectent nos communautés, d’un océan à l’autre. L’initiative Communautés pour la résilience climatique (CRC) s’attaque à cet enjeu en soutenant les communautés qui souhaitent passer à l’action. En participant à la cohorte CRC, les fondations communautaires renforcent leur préparation à l’adaptation climatique, intègrent des considérations de résilience climatique dans leur décisions d’octroi de subventions et d’investissement et mobilisent des partenaires afin de mettre en œuvre des solutions menées par la communauté. La cohorte est axée sur l’apprentissage entre pairs, la formation pratique, la collecte de données et la collaboration, dans le but de contribuer à bâtir les connaissances, les relations et le leadership nécessaires aux communautés pour affronter le changement climatique à l’échelle locale et sur le long terme. Climate change is no longer a future challenge; communities across Canada are experiencing its impacts now. Communities for Climate Resilience (CCR) is supporting community foundations to move from awareness to action: strengthening local climate preparedness, embedding resilience into grantmaking and investment decisions, and convening partners around community-led solutions. Through practical learning, peer exchange, data, and collaboration, CCR is helping communities build the relationships, knowledge, and leadership needed to respond to a changing climate, locally and for the long term. The Ontario Peer Gathering was a great success, bringing community foundations from across Ontario together in Kanata on May 13–14 for two days of connection, learning, and shared problem-solving. Executive Directors, CEOs, staff across key functions, and board and volunteer leaders were all in the room, reflecting the depth and diversity of the network. Across the sessions, participants exchanged practical insights, strengthened collaboration tools, and explored opportunities for collective action, with space also set aside to simply enjoy being together in true community foundation spirit. Thank you to all community foundations who participated and contributed to such a meaningful gathering, and to Addenda Capital for their support in making the event possible. Le rassemblement entre pairs de l’Ontario a réuni, les 13 et 14 mai à Kanata, des fondations communautaires de toute la province pour deux journées consacrées aux échanges, à l’apprentissage et à la résolution collective de problèmes. En présence de DG, PDG, membres du personnel occupant des postes clés, dirigeant·es de conseils d’administration et bénévoles, les discussions ont reflété la richesse et la diversité du réseau ontarien. Les participant·es ont pu échanger des conseils pratiques, renforcer les outils de collaboration et explorer les possibilités d'action collective, tout en prenant le temps, dans l'esprit même d'une fondation communautaire, de tisser des liens précieux. Nous remercions toutes les fondations communautaires qui ont participé à ce rassemblement et ont contribué à en faire un événement mémorable. Dignité par le sport présente PowerShift 2026 | 25 au 27 mai, le premier sommet du genre au Canada. Le sport et le jeu sont essentiels à l'épanouissement des communautés, pourtant l'accès demeure inégal et les systèmes toujours fragmentés. Il est temps d'opérer un virage.
