📢CASIS Vancouver Welcomes Dr. Wade Deisman, PhD. as President. The Canadian Association for Security and Intelligence Studies, Vancouver, is delighted to annouce the appointment of Dr. Wade Deisman, PhD, as President. Dr. Deisman is a nationally recognized criminologist, public intellectual, and academic leader whose work connects critical scholarship, policy engagement, and public education. He currently serves as Associate Dean of Social Sciences at the University of the Fraser Valley, where he has helped shape academic programming, foster interdisciplinary research, and support public scholarship on crime, security, justice, and democratic life. Dr. Deisman brings significant expertise in national security, intelligence, surveillance, criminology, and public policy to CASIS Vancouver. He has led federally and provincially funded initiatives on the social, legal, and political dimensions of Canadian security policy, and has provided expert consultation to public-facing organizations including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. While at the University of Ottawa, Dr. Deisman served as Director of the Ottawa-based National Security Working Group, a forum that brought together scholars, policymakers, practitioners, and civil society actors to examine Canadian national security. In the immediate aftermath of the September 11 attacks, he also contributed to public safety and community dialogue around Bill C-36 and Bill C-42 through his work with the Law Commission of Canada and the Ottawa Community Outreach and Advisory Committee. These experiences have helped establish Dr. Deisman as a national voice on security, intelligence, public safety, privacy, civil liberties, and the rule of law. Most recently, he has played a leading role in public analysis of the extortion crisis, helping to frame its implications for community safety, organized crime, foreign interference, public trust, and the Canadian security landscape. In addition to his scholarly and policy work, Dr. Deisman has regularly engaged public audiences through media commentary, policy briefings, community outreach, and educational initiatives that invite broader civic participation in discussions of security, justice, intelligence, public safety, and democratic accountability. As an organization, we have given a lot of thought to who is best placed to lead CASIS Vancouver into its next chapter following the passing of Candyce Kelshall last year. Following this, we are delighted to announce Dr. Deisman’s appointment and we look forward his leadership in strengthening dialogue, research, and public engagement on security and intelligence issues in Canada and beyond. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Deisman to this important leadership role. #CASISVancouver #SecurityStudies #NationalSecurity #CASIS #Criminology #PublicPolicy #IntelligenceStudies #Leadership #SecurityAndIntelligence
