At the CFI, we listen to the research community — and act on what we hear. Across Canada, core facilities are growing rapidly. They bring researchers together to share advanced infrastructure, drive collaboration across sectors and maximize the impact of public investments. They also play a key role in attracting, training and retaining the next generation of research talent. For more than a decade, we’ve supported these shared platforms — and recently strengthened that commitment when we introduced a dedicated funding stream through our Innovation Fund. We’re pleased to see this work featured in the Journal of Microscopy, where our article, “Built to be shared: Lessons from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) on funding core facilities,” highlights what we’ve learned and where we’re headed next.
🔬In this new paper, the authors present a funder's perspective on the value of core facilities, which the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) has supported for over a decade leading to the recent creation of a dedicated funding stream for core facilities as part of its 2025 Innovation Fund competition. This article details the CFI's consultative approach and steps taken towards the launch of the core facilities funding stream. "Built to be shared: Lessons from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) on funding core facilities" by Mark Lagacé, Heidi-C Bandulet, Ph.D., Natalee Rubec, Olivier Gagnon and Sandra Zohar will appear in the upcoming Light Microscopy Core Facility Management Volume 2 special issue > https://lnkd.in/ehP5eZX4
