  • More than 770,000 Canadians are living with dementia today. By 2030, that number could reach one million. This Sunday, May 31 2026, BITSUMMIT team member Junior Williams is riding with Baycrest for Bike for Brain Health, with Mandip Grewal alongside him in support. 🚴🏽♂️🧠 This cause is deeply personal for many families across our communities. Every kilometre ridden helps support research, care, and the people navigating stroke, dementia, aging, and recovery. • To the ops teams, sysadmins, helpdesk, and deployment engineers keeping the lights on.   You're the ones who know the system inside and out. 3 a.m. pages, forgotten password resets, the deployment that went sideways at 8:57 p.m. on a Friday. You fix it. Quietly. While the rest of the org is resting.   We've built our whole operation on the idea that real IT work happens in the field. That's you. Every ticket you close, every infrastructure fix you've shipped, every service you've kept running when everything else tried to break it. We see it.   Now, the funny part. We'd love to automate everything for you so you never have to run another manual patch cycle or respond to another alert. But honestly, if we did, what would you do with all that free time. Sleep. Probably sleep.   Reach out if you're tired of the grind and want to talk about how we can take some of it off your plate. https://lnkd.in/dbpJFspW #bitsummit #opsmatters #canadianit #sysadmin

Eid Mubarak from all of us at Bitsummit. Eid al-Adha carries an important reminder: sacrifice, reflection, and the willingness to let go of what holds us back are part of growth - personally and collectively. We are thankful for the diverse team and communities we work alongside across Canada, and around the globe. Different experiences and perspectives help us build better systems, solve problems differently, and stay connected to what truly matters. Wishing peace, gratitude, and quality time with loved ones to everyone celebrating. #bitsummit #eidmubarak #canadianteam

  • We're watching managers become bottlenecks the moment their teams got faster.   AI collapsed the feedback cycle. Work that used to take a week now ships in a day. The old management model assumed execution took time. You delegated, checked in a week later, offered notes. That doesn't work anymore. Your job has shifted from editor-in-chief to strategic guide.   We've helped a few teams through this transition. The ones that landed best did three things: they stopped assigning tasks and started clarifying direction (the "where" instead of the "what"), they built in faster feedback loops without drowning their own calendar, and they used AI to surface what actually mattered instead of flattening everything into summaries.   If your team's pace is outrunning your ability to steer, this is worth a conversation.    https://lnkd.in/dbpJFspW   #bitsummit #management #canadiantech #ai

  • The conversations after our last Hyper-V post made one thing clear. A lot of teams are not just evaluating whether to stay or migrate. They are trying to understand what Microsoft is actually building and whether the stack they are on today still makes sense.   Most large enterprises will never be 100% cloud. Microsoft recognized that reality and built toward it. Here is what that actually looks like in practice.   Their architecture across Azure, Hyper-V, and Azure Arc is deliberate and interlocking. Azure is the revenue engine for net-new cloud workloads. Hyper-V keeps Microsoft embedded in the large portion of enterprises that will not fully migrate. Arc is the part most teams underestimate. It projects Azure's control plane onto anything: on-prem servers, Hyper-V VMs, VMware environments, bare metal, Kubernetes, even AWS and GCP resources. Wherever it runs, Microsoft earns from it and manages it. That is not a cloud story. That is a management plane story.   With VMware's licensing complications, Microsoft had a ready answer: Hyper-V, Azure Stack HCI, and Arc as a direct replacement stack. They had been building toward that moment for years. A lot of organizations are now having that conversation in real time. The part that does not get talked about enough: that same management layer now supports deploying AI and ML workloads on-prem, close to the data. For teams in finance, healthcare, and government who assumed AI meant public cloud, this changes the calculus. You do not have to choose between running AI and keeping data inside your environment. That is a conversation we will get into more specifically in our next post.   For now, if your organization is working through a Hyper-V renewal, a VMware displacement decision, or starting to ask what AI looks like on-prem, the right starting point is understanding what your environment actually supports today. Rethinking your virtualization strategy? We offer a free micro-assessment to map out what your environment actually supports before the decisions get made. • BITSUMMIT is hiring across three intern roles this season.   We are growing the team behind the work. Cloud migrations, infrastructure modernization, identity, security, and AI deployments are active workstreams supporting enterprise clients across Canada, and the technology team behind them is expanding.   If you are a student or recent graduate looking for hands-on experience, one of these roles might be a fit.   HR & Operations Intern. Support real hiring cycles, onboarding, internal communications, and the operational work that keeps a growing technology team running.   Marketing Intern. Work alongside the marketing team on campaigns, content, and social media that actually goes live. Real ownership and direct exposure to active projects and initiatives.   AI Systems Builder Intern. Hands-on work building automation and AI systems for enterprise clients. Production deployments using n8n, Copilot Studio, Python, and modern AI agent frameworks. Client-facing from day one.   All three roles offer direct mentorship, flexible scheduling around studies, and exposure to real client-facing work. Oakville-based, hybrid, Canadian work or study authorization required.   If any of these roles sound like your kind of work, or you know someone who fits, send your resume to careers@bitsummit.com along with the role you're applying for and one thing you'd want to learn while you're here.   BITSUMMIT welcomes applications from candidates with disabilities. Accommodations are available upon request at any stage of the selection process.   #Hiring #Internships #StudentJobs #CanadianTech #BITSUMMIT

  • Even the most resilient environments need maintenance windows. Patch cycles. Reboots. The quiet hours where you let something rest so it can run better when it comes back up. People aren't different. The systems behind the systems, the people running them, need the same. So this long weekend, we're powering down. No alerts to chase, no migrations to plan, no dashboards to watch. Just a few days of Canadian spring, sunshine if we're lucky, and being somewhere other than a terminal. Back Tuesday: patched, rebooted, ready for what's next. To everyone celebrating Victoria Day, enjoy the long weekend. Drop your downtime plans in the comments. We'd love to hear how you're rebooting. #VictoriaDay #LongWeekend #CanadianTech #BITSUMMIT

  • You don't have MDR just because you have monitoring. Monitoring tells you something happened. MDR tells you what to do about it, and then does it. Most organizations we talk to aren't missing alerts. They're missing the team, the playbook, and the minutes that turn an alert into a contained incident. If your "MDR" stops at a dashboard, it's monitoring with a nicer name. Real MDR is threat hunting. Triage. Active response. A defined chain of accountability when something fires at 2:47 AM on a Saturday. That's what BITSUMMIT delivers, not another alert feed, but a response team that owns the outcome from detection to containment. Our analysts run the playbook so your team doesn't have to build one from scratch at 3 AM. Swipe through, and ask yourself: when something fires, what actually happens next? If you can't answer that in one sentence, you have a response gap. Check your response gap with BITSUMMIT today → bitsummit.com/contact #MDR #Cybersecurity #ThreatDetection #SOC #IncidentResponse #BITSUMMIT

  • The longer it sits, the more it costs to move. Most organizations running hybrid Active Directory didn't make a deliberate choice to stay there. They made a series of smaller choices, to prioritize other projects, to defer the migration another quarter, to let the environment grow a little more before touching the identity layer. And every quarter it sits, the picture gets more complicated. Conditional access policies that stop working the way they should. Zero trust initiatives that stall because on-premises AD is the gap in every authentication flow. Complexity that compounds quietly until something forces the conversation, an audit, a security incident, a renewal that no longer makes financial sense. The environment keeps growing around the constraint. Which is exactly what makes the eventual move harder, not easier. Entra ID fully replaces what most organizations are using hybrid AD for today. The question isn't whether to move. It's whether to move before the backlog gets longer or after. If you're not sure what your hybrid identity setup is actually costing you right now, that's usually the right place to start the conversation. 📩 intake@bitsummit.com #EntraID #HybridAD #ActiveDirectory #IdentityManagement #ZeroTrust #MicrosoftPartner #CanadianTech #BITSUMMIT

  • The Microsoft licensing conversation just got simpler. Whether your environment is ready for it is a different question. We had a client last week trying to make sense of E5, Entra Suite, Copilot, and agent governance as separate motions. No clear starting point. A lot of moving pieces. The M365 E7 announcement this week collapsed that into one SKU. One licensing motion, meaningful savings on annual terms through year-end. For our client, it closed a loop that had been open for a while. But a cleaner license doesn't mean a ready environment. The organizations we work with that actually get value out of this tend to share a few things: data classification in reasonable shape, conditional access done properly, and someone who owns the governance question, not just the deployment. The ones who aren't there yet usually have the same gap: AI and agent capabilities landing before the controls are ready to support them. Not a Microsoft problem. Just the pace of how this is moving. If your organization is sitting with the same question our client had last week, reach out: 📩 intake@bitsummit.com We do licensing reviews regularly and we're happy to think it through. #Microsoft365 #AIGovernance #CloudStrategy #MicrosoftPartner #ITLeadership #CanadianTech #BITSUMMIT
