AFCO ICM on "The Institutional Aspects of Artificial Intelligence in the Context of European Integration", 14 April 2026
The meeting will take place at the European Parliament in Brussels on Tuesday, 14 April 2026, from 15:30 to 18:30. It will bring together Members of the European Parliament, members of national parliaments, representatives of the European Commission, and other relevant stakeholders.
The first session will be devoted to the presentation of, and an exchange of views on, an AFCO draft own-initiative report on the institutional aspects of artificial intelligence in the context of European integration, under the rapporteurship of Mr Emmanouil Kefalogiannis, Member of the European Parliament.
The second session will focus on international interparliamentary cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence, with particular attention to mechanisms supporting parliamentary scrutiny, anticipatory governance, and legislative coherence at both Union and national levels.
The third session will examine the impact of artificial intelligence and rapid technological transformation on democratic processes, notably in the context of the European Electoral Act.
The active involvement of national parliaments will be central to the discussions, with a view to ensuring a comprehensive and coordinated European response to the challenges posed by artificial intelligence to democratic institutions in the digital age.
