Might be handy (or not, I do not carry it), but if the rented bike does not have it...Vladimir F Героям слава– Vladimir F Героям слава2022-09-20 15:46:09 +00:00Commented Sep 20, 2022 at 15:46

I only had a hex wrench; I was not carrying an adjustable wrench, so this is not helpful. I agree this wouldn't have been a problem with proper tools.DavidW– DavidW2022-09-20 15:59:00 +00:00Commented Sep 20, 2022 at 15:59

1Please don't recommend straightening bent rims with and adjustable wrench. People out there might actually believe you.ojs– ojs2022-09-20 16:38:25 +00:00Commented Sep 20, 2022 at 16:38

1Bear in mind that you can over-tighten a valve core and snap it. This has happened to me before (after having exactly the same issue as the OP) – and it's not fun. The result is the bottom fragment of the valve core being threaded into the valve stem, while the top part (the only bit you can grip) is spinning freely. Good luck fixing that by the side of the road. Will Vousden– Will Vousden2022-09-20 19:04:45 +00:00Commented Sep 20, 2022 at 19:04

@ojs Adjustable wrenches actually work pretty well for straightening dings in rims in my experience. Of course, trying to true your wheel with an adjustable wrench would be a pretty poor idea.MaplePanda– MaplePanda2022-09-20 19:12:30 +00:00Commented Sep 20, 2022 at 19:12

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. mountain-bike), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
