Super session moderated by Phil Kenul, Rear Admiral (retired) (a living legend), and the wonderful Alexandra Florin of Wing in front of a packed theatre today in Dusseldorf. While US drone delivery companies grow at crazy scale across the USA, European companies in the EU are still held back by a lack of political impetus around airspace sharing. Europe has the strongest, and clearest set of low altitude regulations, but no plan nor budget to actually implement them. We have lost our leadership position and must act immediately to reclaim it.

Over the past weeks, the D.CSTG, a group established by EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency Stakeholders Advisory Board, leadership team – Julie Garland (Joint European Drone Associations (JEDA) and Andrea Signorini (Aerospace, Security and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD) as Co-Chairs, Justin Chirea (EASA), and Dannick R. (Drone Alliance Europe) as Secretariat – has been working intensively to establish the four Activity Groups (AGs) approved by the EASA SAB Plenary: - AG Open Category - AG Specific Category - AG Certified Category & AAM - AG U-Space and Airspace Integration In total, nearly 50 Work Programme Items (WPIs) were identified across these groups. Following feedback from the SAB, each AG is now refining its scope to focus on priorities – ensuring that efforts remain realistic, targeted, and results-driven. Leadership teams for each AG have now been announced as follows: ▶️ Open Category – Baptiste SIMONOT (FPDC/Joint European Drone Associations (JEDA) and Henri Hohtari (Wingtra/Joint European Drone Associations (JEDA) ▶️ Specific Category – Dannick Riteco (SORA Consulting/DAE) and Thierry Vandendorpe (Airbus/ASD), with Alejandro del Estal Herrero (RigiTech/Joint European Drone Associations (JEDA) as Secretariat ▶️ U-Space & Airspace Integration – @Jean Pierre de Muyt (Skeydrone/Joint European Drone Associations (JEDA) and Daniel Gutiérrez (ASD/ITG), with Koen DE VOS (GUTMA) and Luigi Brucculeri (CANSO) as Secretariat ▶️ Certified Category & AAM – Thierry Vandendorpe (ASD) and Luc VESCO (Joint European Drone Associations (JEDA) as Co-Chairs, with Joan Serra (GAMA) as Secretariat We are grateful to all experts who volunteered and helped shape these teams. The process focused on balancing industry experience, operational diversity, and community representation, ensuring long-term alignment across the broader aviation ecosystem – from rotorcraft to general aviation. At this week’s D.CSTG meeting in Brussels, AG leads presented their progress, and preparations began! Many thanks to everyone contributing to this important effort – a lot has been achieved, but there is still much to do!

This week, DAE was at EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency HQ in 📍Cologne for two impactful days to formally establish the Drone Community Steering Group (D.CSTG). We’re pleased with this first step to strengthen our collaboration with EASA and would like to congratulate Julie Garland (Joint European Drone Associations (JEDA)) and Andrea Signorini (Aerospace, Security and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD)) for their election as D.CSTG co-chairs. We’re also proud to support this group by serving as the secretariat alongside Justin Chirea from EASA. All stakeholders share a strong commitment to unlocking the full potential of the UAS ecosystem in Europe by working together in an agile and pragmatic manner, ensuring the necessary prioritisation, and maintaining regulatory pace with the sector's rapid growth. At the EASA UAS TeB meeting with National Aviation Authorities and European Commission's DG MOVE, where our Director General Dannick Riteco presented the joint industry BVLOS strategy, it was clear that, while challenges remain, there is a shared determination to tackle them and advance safe, scalable BVLOS UAS operations across Europe. All in all, this represents a coordinated step forward, built on trust, transparency, and collaboration, and sets the stage for continued momentum 🚀 #BVLOS #drones
