Cairns Regional Council must abandon its “cruel cash grab” to increase rates for retirement village residents during this cost of living crisis. Fixed income pensioners will be the hardest hit, and they tell us Council’s unconscionable increases – up to 800 per cent in one community – mean they will be forced to cut spending on groceries and medication. “This is a truly awful proposal leading to so much fear and anxiety across this community,” RLC Executive Director Daniel Gannon said.
