That’s why Check Point’s founder influenced, engineering first model stands out. It tends to support long-term thinking, product stability, and more deliberate innovation rather than chasing market noise or growth at all costs. In cybersecurity, that matters more than many buyers realize.Ryan Rathwell shared thisTwo cybersecurity giants. Same market, completely different DNA. Having worked at both Palo Alto Networks and Check Point, I’ve always found the differences between these two companies fascinating. On paper, they compete in the same space. In reality, their incentives, strategy, and behavior can be very different. Palo Alto Networks is largely driven by institutional investors. The majority of the company is owned by large asset managers like Vanguard and BlackRock. That structure naturally pushes for aggressive growth, acquisitions, and strong financial performance. Check Point, on the other hand, still reflects strong founder influence. Gil Shwed, the founder, owns a significant stake in the company. That often translates into a more conservative strategy: steady innovation, strong margins, and a long-term engineering mindset. But what does this actually mean for customers? Ownership structure influences company behavior more than many buyers realize. When a company is heavily driven by financial markets and institutional investors, there is constant pressure to grow revenue, increase deal size, and improve profitability. As a customer, that can sometimes translate into aggressive upselling, complex licensing models, and pricing pressure. Founder-driven companies tend to think longer term. That doesn’t automatically make them “better,” but it often creates different priorities around product stability, roadmap decisions, and customer relationships. Having worked inside both environments, I’ve seen how these dynamics play out internally. Yet many organizations still make cybersecurity decisions purely based on analyst reports, brand recognition, or the latest marketing narrative, without fully considering the incentives behind the vendor. Vendor strategy, ownership structure, and financial pressure directly influence the experience you will have as a customer. Interesting perspective.
CVE numbers alone don’t tell the full story.
What matters more is the context around those disclosures severity, exploitability, product breadth, architectural exposure, and speed of remediation. Transparency is important, but just raw CVE counts without context can be misleading.

You’ve captured something really important here. When organisations treat cybersecurity as a business enabler rather than just an overhead, it changes the conversation completely.
The ability to clearly demonstrate maturity, controls and resilience can absolutely become a differentiator in tenders and customer trust.

Ryan Rathwell liked thisRyan Rathwell liked thisCheck Point is executing the right strategy in the right direction...and that is exactly the problem. ...wait, how's that possible? Eighteen months into what its leadership calls the next chapter, Check Point has: four deliberate acquisitions, a juggernaut of a balance sheet, and four clear pillars built on their flavor of a platform strategy. Subscription revenue is up 11%, emerging products are growing ARR at better than 40%, and recurring billings are up 10%. ...but their consolidated growth rate is 6%. That is exactly where a company looks when it's building against a new-ish strategy but hasn't hit the point where it's delivering results at scale yet. Let's unpack what's going on here: → The emerging products story The most important thing happening at Check Point right now is what is happening in the emerging products: – Email security is past $160M in ARR and on its way to $200M in 2026. – SASE is generating 2/3 upsell revenue with the rest coming from net-new customers. – The CTEM platform has more than 100 deployments and 70-plus integrations for automated remediation across various technology partner integrations. These numbers are not large relative to the overall base (which, unfortunately for Check Point, is large)...but they are growing in the right direction. → Calling their shot on M&A Their leadership team wasn't joking when they said M&A was going to be priority. Last quarter, they announced Lakera for runtime protection in AI applications. They rolled out three more this quarter: Cyata for AI agent governance (side note: I like this one a lot), Cyclops to complete their CTEM triad, and Rotate to extend the MSP motion in workspace security. Each acquisition maps to one pillar, and each pillar is designed to operate as a standalone platform rather than a bundled add-on. The near-term economics are modest. Their balance sheet absorbs tuck-in M&A like this without breaking a sweat, and the strategic logic is defensible. → The open platform bet, CTEM style The CTEM platform operating across environments Check Point doesn't fully control (e.g. not just its own products) is a clear example of their open platform thesis in practice. The consolidated growth rate has not yet confirmed that the bet will pay off at scale, but the evidence is building in a direction that is worth watching.
