New #MTSS and #ImplementationScience research in the Australian context! Really pleased to share a new paper led by Monash Education PhD student Karina Stocker, now published in the Australian Journal of Learning Difficulties 🎉 This study draws on survey data from 74 educators across three Victorian primary schools to explore what actually helps - and what gets in the way - when implementing Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for reading in Australian contexts. Key takeaways: 📌 Teachers identified resources - particularly time, staffing, funding, and access to high-quality programmes and assessments - as the most influential factor, with the absence of resources far more commonly reported as a barrier than their presence as a facilitator. 📌 School context also mattered, including student characteristics, workload, and the consistency and fidelity of school-wide systems, highlighting the need for MTSS approaches that are adaptable and fit for purpose in each school. 📌 Knowledge and professional learning were identified as critical facilitators, with in-house expertise and ongoing coaching facilitating implementation, while gaps in pre-service preparation and staff turnover posed ongoing challenges. 📌 Finally, leadership was consistently identified as a key facilitator, supporting vision, coherence, and day-to-day implementation processes. Findings are interpreted through an implementation science lens, using the Active Implementation Framework to generate practical, system-relevant recommendations. Universities worldwide are increasingly shaped by corporate, profit-driven logic. Australia is sadly ahead of the curve. The Parliamentary inquiry report just released identifies the core problem: academics have been marginalised in university governance. Their role in deciding what to teach, how to teach, and even what to research has been eroded, as non-academic managers have progressively taken these decisions away from them. The report is worth reading and referencing for academics in Australia and beyond who are concerned about the erosion of universities’ academic character. Its conclusion broadly aligns with the submissions of many academics, including mine: the problem is structural, and it requires putting academics back at the heart of university governance. https://lnkd.in/gnAGs669

Hossein Hosseini, a systems modeling research fellow at the University of Sydney's Brain and Mind Centre, and his team are transforming youth mental health. Their paper, published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research, used System Dynamics Modeling to project the impact of resource allocation strategies. This research highlights that the most effective pathway is a combined approach: expanding specialized services while simultaneously integrating digital technologies, which are essential to complement, not replace, traditional services. Sharing my prompt to generate a tailored review of a published manuscript. Anyone use something similar? Any tips for improvement? Please summarise the following scientific paper in clear, concise language suitable for advanced undergraduate students (e.g. 3rd year or Honours level). Use around 500 words and Australian English spelling. Begin with: Title of the paper Authors Journal name and publication year DOI or article URL Then structure the summary into the following sections: 🔹 Research Question and Context Briefly state what the authors aimed to investigate and why the topic matters (e.g. gap in the literature, real-world relevance). 🔹 Methods Summarise the study design, sample size, population, key techniques or tools used (e.g. EWAS, meta-analysis, randomised controlled trial). Briefly explain any specialised terms. 🔹 Main Findings Outline the major results clearly. Include effect sizes, significance, or major patterns, as appropriate to the study type. 🔹 Conclusions and Implications What do the authors conclude, and what are the implications for research, practice, or policy?
