This year’s KPMG Australia & University of Melbourne Trust in AI Survey Report shows Australians simply don’t trust AI yet! Without trust in AI, we simply won’t get adoption of the technology, investment in AI innovation and the potential productivity improvements that our Australian economy deserves. We have to do better #Australia! 1) Education is low. The survey shows Only 24% of Australians have had training in AI, compared with levels of 65%+ in neighbouring Asian economies. We need Government, Educational institutions, and Corporates to work together on more AI education. 2) Regulation is hard, but it has to happen. 77% of those surveyed are ready for regulation in Australia. This regulation has to be balanced – giving confidence to society around the use of AI and impact on humans, but also encourage innovation investment in Australia. 3) Investment – As a Services based economy, we have so much to gain out of the Trusted use of AI in Australia. Other nations are pulling together private/public partnerships to invest in AI in very big numbers (The Stargate Project in the USA at $500bn,  Invest AI in Europe at €200bn) If we pull together, we have a great opportunity to harness the productivity benefits of AI for all Australians – but we have to act now! Energised after an insightful and empowering Abundium Sisterhood session with Dr Kellie Nuttall, National Lead Partner, AI Institute, Deloitte yesterday on the state of AI in Australia and what it means for C-Suite leaders! Sharing some reflections: • AI is not just a technology play, it’s a business strategy play. The CEO is the most important driver of adoption and impact. • AI fluency at the top matters, boards and executives must balance ethics, innovation and organisational redesign while keeping human connection at the centre. • The opportunity is bigger than productivity. The NZ government and NZ tech cut their internal tech teams. Globally, things are broken AF. 🤦🏽‍♀️ 🚨 The problem? When the shit hits the fan, who fixes it? Robust, scalable AI Agents will be at the heart of Humans + AI redesign of organizations. Here are key aspects of this framework I first shared today at Agentforce World Tour Sydney in the opening keynote Executive Experience panel (more on that in another post). In this diagram I have aimed to distil the most fundamental patterns for redesigning workflows and organizational structure. 🧑‍💼 Worker value shifts Agents are fundamental in three primary mechanisms: 🤖 Automation - Taking over specific functions 📈 Productivity - Improving workers' effectiveness, including by allocating appropriate tasks between humans and agents 🚀 Augmentation - Increasing the capabilities of humans ⚙️ Elemental Humans + AI workflows At the very core, there are two key workflow elements: 🥪 Human-AI sandwich Human provides the frame, intent, and context ➡️ AI executes instructions ➡️ Human reviews output for quality and refines 🔄 Human-in-the-loop AI performs a defined task or decision ➡️ Human assesses, reviews, approves, or chooses other actions ➡️ AI completes 🔗This contrasts with the linear traditional workflows of sequential work by humans or algorithms. These workflow elements can be built into a wide variety of more sophisticated patterns. 🕹️The high-performance Humans + AI workflows that will underlie all successful organizations require dynamic orchestration. Humans and AI agents will each do what they do best in outcome-oriented workflows. These will not be static but dynamically reconfigured as conditions change. Orchestration agents, supervised by humans, will assist in optimizing these evolving workflows. This diagram provides a very high-level frame for leaders to consider directions and potential of agent adoption. Coming up I will be sharing more details on the evolution of Humans + AI workflows in an agentic world. Executing this well will be at the heart of the most successful organizations of tomorrow.

According to Moxie Research 40% of IT partners are still deep in survival mode across Australia. This recent research found that every aspect of running an IT business has become more expensive with salaries considered as one of the most severe, especially for managed services and consultancy businesses. The Moxie Insights research identified average technical salaries from 2020 to 2025 had a double-digit increase almost across the board in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
