Most brands are still sending the same message to everyone. Angela D. Clark shared that when she joined Patagonia, ~90% of their messaging was batch and blast. But their customers aren’t the same. Some customers are surfers. Others are hikers. Some are shopping for their kids. So why are we still marketing like all customers are the same? That’s what Angela changed. And it’s exactly what we’re building at Instant. 1:1 personalization at scale. 🎧 Hear more: https://lnkd.in/eRjAr_zs

Behind the scenes of Beyond the Now at Shoptalk this week.🎙️ Got to sit down with some incredible operators: Phoebe Yu (ettitude), Noah Dentzel (Nomad), and Javier Marimon (Felina Lingerie). A few lines I can’t stop thinking about: • “AI is the biggest opportunity to restore intimacy” with your shoppers • You need to use your own product endlessly • "We're AI-powered" has become meaningless when everyone says it Stay tuned!

What is it like to market a brand that doesn’t want you to buy more? That’s literally the challenge at Patagonia. Angela D. Clark, former VP of Digital at Patagonia, joined us to talk about how she grew the brand... And it goes against almost everything most companies are doing. Most brands: → Push discounts → Chase conversions → Optimize for more purchases Patagonia: → Wants your product to last 25 years → Doesn’t rely on constant promos for sales → Prioritizes long-term brand connection over quick wins So then how do you grow? This one is 🔥 Thanks for joining me for such an interesting convo, Angela. 🎧 Watch here: https://lnkd.in/eRjAr_zs

  • Last week Esteban Calvo took the stage at the Retail Gen AI Summit and spoke about what actually moves the needle on retention. The room was full of retail leaders asking the right questions. What came back, every time, was the same answer. The brands growing fastest aren't doing more, they're doing it smarter. Every email earning its place, and every shopper treated like you know them. Some standout sessions included Patrick Rechsteiner on international innovations and leadership priorities, and a great fireside chat with Jere Calmes (CEO, THE ICONIC) and Dan Ferguson (NORA Advisor, former CMO Adore Beauty Group) on the 2026 mindset and leading through Agentic Commerce. Big thank you to NORA for bringing together such a strong group of retail leaders.

There are brands that once did $100M+ in revenue… …that collapsed. They figured out how to hack an algorithm. They scaled one product. But they never built a brand that lasts. Jack Gray, CEO of Blenders and ex-adidas, explains why so many brands fall into this trap and what it actually takes to scale long-term. In the episode, we also get into: - Why paid can either scale you… or fail you - Why A/B testing is already outdated - How the best teams are thinking about AI + experimentation Jack has operated at a level very few people have. You can feel it in how he thinks. Also… his reaction to what we’re building at Instant was pretty fun 😅 Watch the full episode: https://lnkd.in/ena8egRH

Trash, delete, unsubscribe. That's 90% of your inbox before 9am. Because somewhere between the abandoned cart email you've seen 400 times and the subject line that screams "LAST CHANCE" for the third week in a row, there's an entire industry pretending this is fine. It's not. And next week at Shoptalk, we're putting it all on a game board. Commerce Feud. Four Seasons Penthouse, teams of 3, tasting menus, 7 rounds. $15K grand prize. $200 spa card just for playing. The Inbox Round opens Day 1, presented by our friends at Instant! 7 questions hitting the board: 1. Name something brands put in every abandoned cart email. 2. Name something every brand does to grow their email list that shoppers are tired of. 3. Name a discount every brand offers that trains shoppers to never pay full price. 4. Name an email every brand sends that goes straight to trash. 5. Name something a brand puts in a subject line to get you to open it that doesn't work anymore. 6. Name the email flow brands set up on day one and never look at again. 7. Name something brands email you about way too often. Here's the cheat code: The board is built from the answers commerce leaders submit. Drop yours in the link below, and you're literally putting your answers on the board your team plays on. The game is rigged....In your favor. 😉 Answer and win: https://lnkd.in/gyfsMuhK

The best moments in marketing often aren’t planned. Martha Stewart posted a photo at the airport heading to the Super Bowl with a suitcase and a bag. The bag was Cuyana. No campaign. No paid partnership. An organic celeb moment most brands dream of. Max Lishansky, CMO at Cuyana, shared the story behind the moment on the podcast, explaining they had actually been building that relationship for a long time. But it perfectly illustrates something he said during the conversation: The biggest growth moments rarely come straight from the marketing playbook. On the pod we also talked about: • Why Max grew up watching infomercials to understand marketing • How brands actually find their growth edge • Why the best growth tactics often live outside “best practices” Really enjoyed this conversation. Max brought a thoughtful operator perspective based on years of leading marketing for top DTC brands. Full episode below 👇
