Charity retailers are sitting on more donated stock than ever, while digital channels like Depop and eBay are thriving. That's why we're running a session for Charitable Reuse Australia members on scaling online resale channels. • Excited to share that we're now working with Neighbours Aid! Neighbours Aid empowers communities in developing nations to reach their potential through education, medical care, capacity building, food production and the development of sustainable projects. By using Shopfront as part of their retail operations, the team at Neighbours Aid can now scale their online selling processes across multiple channels by automating the workflow between taking photos and listing. Thanks Danielle for helping set this up, we're looking forward to supporting your growth.

Everything you've ever bought still exists on this planet. ↴ And now it's going to stay that way because the EU just banned brands from destroying unsold clothes. Starting July 19, 2026, large companies can no longer burn or dump unsold textiles. Medium-sized companies follow by 2030. No more destroying perfectly good clothes just to protect brand value. When you think about it, this is insane that it was even allowed in the first place. Finally stopped. But it's not new: France started this back in 2020 when around €630 million worth of unsold products were being destroyed every year. Now the EU is scaling that mindset across borders. Wondering what other countries will follow. Burning and dumping was the easy way out. Now what? Here are startups building solutions: ✷ Circ® - Breaks down polycotton waste into original fibers to reuse in new garments ✷ Worn Again Technologies - Raised $46M for polymer recycling that separates polyester and cotton from discarded clothing ✷ Tingit | You Live, We Fix. - Raised €1.5M to expand its AI-powered repair platform across Europe ✷ Shopfront - Won eBay's $100K Circular Fashion Fund for their AI-powered tool that streamlines fashion resale across multiple marketplaces ✷ Danit Peleg - Pioneering 3D-printed fashion that produces zero waste and enables on-demand, customized clothing from home The solutions exist. The question is whether brands will adopt them fast enough, or if unsold inventory just shifts from landfills to warehouses collecting dust. I also found this great resource by Tiina Nyman who created a database of over 200 fashion resale companies tackling circular fashion {link in comments} Do you know other startups tackling this issue? Drop them in the comments. 👋 I'm Jess. I'm shaping the conversation around AI in fashion. Follow along for weekly takes on the industry.

I went to a panel on “Getting Real about Remake” at RMIT University during PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival 🪡 A few things stood out: • The stigma around secondhand is fading, quickly • The value of custom and “remade” pieces is in the story, process and impact, not just the product itself (the same applies to charity shop purchases), & price reflects that added meaning • Charities like Save the Children Australia can help power the remake economy by redirecting end-of-life stock into creative channels One theme stuck with me: sustainability won’t be solved by a single fix. It’ll take many different solutions, each addressing a piece of the problem. Thanks Julia English, Lauren Hart McKinnon, Gwendoline & Rosie for the insightful conversation.

Last year, the Aussie seller market got a new entrant: Whatnot, a US live-selling platform. I was sceptical. Just because something works in the US doesn’t mean Australian sellers would also adopt it at pace. I was wrong. It’s not eBay or Depop scale yet. But it’s growing fast. From what we’re seeing across sellers, live selling is becoming a serious liquidation channel, especially in high-volume/lower average price categories like trading cards and vintage bulk. Stock that might sit for months can move in a single stream, and the gamification changes buyer behaviour quite significantly. It’ll be interesting to see how eBay’s live push lands locally, and what other global formats make their way into Australia next.

First post of 2026 and I'm pumped for Shopfront. Last year was full of lessons, and I'm super proud of what we've created so far as a business. We've managed to build one of the (if not the) most accurate & speedy bulk listing tools in the market that can translate hundreds of photos into rich listings in minutes. If you're a reseller, Op Shop or Charity looking to accelerate your store this year, please drop me a message or a comment below and let's book in a demo. We'd love to support your growth ⚡️
