We don't just create buildings, we tell stories.

About us

We take a consultative, collaborative approach to every project. We partner closely with clients to define a brief and navigate all parameters. Our work is underpinned by a genuine understanding of the individuals who will eventually in inhabit the buildings that we create. Our unique design aesthetic is contemporary and thoughtfully conceived. We are deft space-planners, skilled in developing layouts that optimize space and liveability. Sustainability figures prominently in our approach. We always ensure our projects minimise impact on the environment. Our buildings are low maintenance and will endure time. We balance our love of design with a pragmatic approach. Our design solutions deliver contemporary architectural expression in conjunction with commercial imperatives. Throughout our personalised and detailed planning process, we skilfully negotiate any practical constraints such as budget, schedule and complex site conditions. We are adequately experienced to prepare Visual Amenity Evidence and Visual Impact Statements for VCAT if ever required. We have a proven track record of delivering Specialist Disability Accommodation design and projects. We are committed to supporting social impact projects with our various SDA partners around Australia

Designed by SGKS Architecture, Park Street applies a controlled material palette across a series of connected spaces. Laminex Batten 40 defines the ground floor entry and continues into the kitchen and bar, where Laminex Moroccan Clay AbsoluteMatte® forms the joinery. The butler’s pantry extends this palette with Laminex Moroccan Clay AbsoluteMatte®, and Laminex Infinity. In the laundry, Laminex Green Slate and Laminex White in a Natural Finish introduce contrast, while Laminex Portsea internals and Laminex White cabinetry shape the formal living room. • SGKS Edit l 19 l Adaptive Reinvention for Contemporary Living At Park St, a key process was exploring how careful architectural planning could extend the life and relevance of a home as family dynamics evolved. Conceived as a contemporary response to its historic streetscape, the residence was designed with the capacity to adapt over time, supporting multi-generational living as needs shifted. Provisions within the planning allowed key spaces to evolve without compromising the overall architectural clarity. The design adjustments were intentional and driven by practicality. The ground floor butler’s pantry was reconceived as a laundry to enhance everyday functionality and accessibility, while the former formal living room was reconfigured into a ground‑floor bedroom with a private ensuite, providing flexible accommodation for extended family. Upstairs, the study and the middle bedroom joinery were designed and installed to be fully interchangeable, allowing the spaces to adapt as needs evolve. • We’re excited to share that SGKS ARCH | SDA Architect - Australia has been engaged by the team at cape group to collaborate on a truly unique Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) project. This is not a typical SDA development. Together with Cape’s leadership team and participants, and alongside the exceptional team at Woh Hup Group Australia, we’re exploring a new model, one that brings together thoughtful architecture, emerging technologies, and a genuine co-living approach to create a connected, high-quality community. The vision is participant-led, grounded in real lived experience, and driven by a shared ambition to deliver something beyond compliance, a place that enhances independence, dignity, and day-to-day living in a meaningful way. We’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such a committed and forward-thinking project team. Early days, but this is one to watch. Park Street wields the powerful impact of self-expression and creative freedom given it was designed and built by the client himself: Henry Sgourakis, Principal Architect of SGKS ARCH. Consolidating two Art Deco flats to create a family home in Saint Kilda West, SGKS ARCH radically reinvigorates the façade, introducing the expressive contours and vibrant colours that resonate within.   The home’s inter-war façade was revitalised by the addition of exaggerated geometric forms including an arched window straddling two levels, complemented by metal bollard fencing sprouting from a wide inverted arch that pierces its entry wall. The front entrance is punctuated by a Brushed Champagne Zzziggurat Door Knob from Bankston x Sans-Arc Studio’s Super Collection, its golden shimmer and stepped circular profile instantly piques intrigue while respecting the building’s original Deco design codes.    Radical colour accents including burnt orange and cobalt blue highlight geometric forms – both curved and angular, energetically enhancing the home’s individuality. A Pull 03 in Bronze from Bankston x Edition Office’s Casts collection radiates along one edge of a burnt orange sliding door, its generous size, and soft glow enhanced by the bold shade surrounding it. As with all the metal hardware in the Casts collection, it features a subtly textured surface given the collection’s sandcast–making process, instantly adding a settled patina. We’re excited to officially launch SDA Architect - Australia, purpose-built design for Specialist Disability Accommodation. Over the past several years, our team at SGKS ARCH has worked extensively across Specialist Disability Accommodation projects, from early feasibility and planning through to detailed design and delivery. Through that experience, one thing became clear. SDA requires a different approach. Not just compliance ,but clarity, coordination, and design that genuinely supports residents, providers, and long-term asset performance. That’s why we created SDA Architect. A dedicated platform focused entirely on: • SDA-informed design and planning • Navigating NDIS and compliance requirements • Improving approval certainty • Delivering functional, dignified, and future-proofed homes SDA Architect brings together our accumulated expertise in one place, while remaining firmly backed by the systems, experience, and rigour of SGKS ARCH. Explore the new site at sdaarchitect.com.au If you’re working on an SDA project, or considering one, we’d love to connect and share insights. #sgksarch #sdaarchitect #SpecialistDisabilityAccommodation #NDIS #Architecture

  • SGKS Edit l 17 l The Cost of Non-Compliance in SDA All projects come with their own set of unique risks that need to be considered carefully in every instance, even what may seem like a small or simple item in the large complex scheme of a construction project can have potentially catastrophic consequences. Within Specialist Disability Accommodation projects one area that brings with it its own specific kind of risks is the unique requirement of enrolment with the NDIS and, accordingly, compliance with the SDA Design Standard. This means that the entire viability of a project can hinge on whether or not the whole compliance process is properly managed. Buildings designed for SDA are typically more expensive to build than a more standard residential project and as such the NDIS provides participant funding for rent that is well above the general residential market rates. However in order for an SDA dwelling’s owner to earn these high rents the dwelling must strictly meet the relevant requirements of the SDA Design Standard for the particular design category. • 2025 was a year of momentum, grit, and growth.   It came with its challenges, but also with opportunities we created through hard work, resilience, and a belief in what we’re building at SGKS. The final weeks of the year were especially rewarding — hitting critical milestones that now carry real energy into 2026.   2025 was a grind in the best sense. It tested us, sharpened us, and pushed our team to evolve — not just in our design thinking and delivery, but across our systems, processes, and the way we operate behind the scenes to better serve our clients and projects.   One milestone we’re particularly proud of was receiving acceptance onto the CSR, reinforcing our commitment to quality, rigor, and accountability.   As we step into 2026, we’re grateful for the incredible clients and collaborators we work alongside, and excited for what’s ahead. The year opens with projects across residential homes and additions, hotels, hospitality, civic, childcare, retail and commercial new builds, Specialist Disability Accommodation, and government housing collaborations — each at various stages of delivery.   We enter 2026 with gratitude, clarity, and momentum — energised for a big, creative year ahead.   Here’s to building well, together. See a small collection from 2025. #sgks #sgksarch #architecture #architecturemelbourne #architects #architectsmelbourne #architectureaustralia #yearinreview #melbourne
