NBCF is Australia's leading community-funded organisation funding game-changing breast cancer research.
About us
The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is Australia's leading not-for-profit organisation funding world-class breast cancer research towards our vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer. Since our inception in 1994, NBCF has invested around $200M into more than 600 world-class research projects across Australia. In this time, death rates from breast cancer in Australia have reduced by over 40%. We've seen remarkable results, but the job's not done. At NBCF, we’re determined to create a better tomorrow. We know research matters, and it is central and critical to improving breast cancer outcomes. That’s why we fund the very best breast cancer research in Australia by awarding grants via an open national, competitive and rigorous peer review process.

We are thrilled to highlight the incredible work of Professor Sherene Loi, an NBCF Endowed Chair and world-renowned breast cancer researcher. Professor Loi at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre led a pivotal phase 3 clinical trial investigating the addition of immunotherapy (nivolumab) to standard chemotherapy for patients with patients with early-stage estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) and HER2-negative (HER2−) breast cancer. The study revealed a significant increase in pathological complete response (pCR) rates, meaning more people had no signs of cancer after treatment when immunotherapy was added. For those with specific immune markers in their tumors, the benefits were even greater. You can read the article in Nature Medicine: https://lnkd.in/g92ZUYBV What does this mean for people living with breast cancer? This research represents a potential new treatment pathway, offering hope for better outcomes, especially for those with high-risk, early-stage ER+/HER2- breast cancer. It demonstrates the growing role of immunotherapy in tackling breast cancer and the importance of personalised approaches to treatment. Thank you, Professor Loi, for your tireless commitment to advancing breast cancer treatment and improving lives. If you want to learn more on how NBCF is supporting transformative breast cancer research to realise our vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer visit https://lnkd.in/gYr2g-AV #NBCF #BreastCancer #BreastCancerResearch #PinkHorizon #Impact #Immunotherapy #Collaboration #PeterMac #BristolMyersSquibb
A Peter Mac-led international trial has shown adding the #immunotherapy drug nivolumab to pre-surgery #chemotherapy can dramatically improve cure rates for the most common type of #breastcancer. Professor Sherene Loi, who led the trial, said it doubled the number of patients who achieved the best possible outcome known as a pathological complete response. 📖 The practice-changing results are published in Nature Portfolio Medicine. FY2023/24 was another big year for the National Breast Cancer Foundation thanks to all our supporters. 📢 We announced our five-year Pink Horizon Research Strategy, an ambitious and transformational plan which will provide significant, sustained funding to increase the scale and catalyse the research needed to answer the critical questions to achieve our vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer. 🔬 We invested $13.5 million for 19 new research projects each with different objectives but all with a clear line of sight to stop deaths from breast cancer. Plus, we awarded two research fellowships. 💰 We hit a record-breaking $49.7 million raised for world-class research. This money was raised in various ways by our dedicated supporters including our Pink Diamond Partner, Mother's Day Classic Foundation, community fundraisers, partners and donors who choose to donate in a range of ways. 🎉 We celebrated our 30th anniversary and three decades of partnership with our founding partners, David Jones and the The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. We also celebrated milestones with many other supporters - 20 years of partnership with our Diamond Partners, Professionals Real Estate and ghd and 17 years of partnership with Buxton Real Estate Group. There were awards, television appearances, lab tours, a special pink moment on Sydney Harbour on NYE and so much more. Happy New Year from the National Breast Cancer Foundation! We are thrilled to have been the Official Charity Partner of 2024 Sydney New Years Eve for a second year. The National Breast Cancer Foundation Pink Moment lit up Sydney Harbour pink to raise awareness for breast cancer research and the impact we have made towards our vision of Zero Deaths from breast cancer, over the last 30 years. A big thank you to City of Sydney for this opportunity. As a completely community-funded organisation, we rely on the generosity of partnerships like these and on the support of the Australian public.
