McGrathNicol assisted Echo Law in a recent class action proceeding related to COVID-era flight cancellations. Our team efficiently developed a sophisticated flight history and calculation model to analyse multiple complex data sets for impacted passengers. We were proud to assist Andrew Paull and Lauren E. Meath, and also thank the Qantas team for their willingness to work together with us. Hundreds of thousands of passengers will potentially receive compensation for flight cancellations between January 1, 2020 and November 1, 2022 under the provisional class action settlement. Effective from 1 July 2026, organisations will be required to pay their employees’ superannuation guarantee contributions within seven business days of the normal payday cycle. Partner Janine Thompson spoke with Juliette Saly about what these changes mean for business and finance leaders, and why a pay code review may be necessary. “Organisations may need to review their hire-to-retire processes including pay codes and fund details captured during onboarding, as well as interdependencies and touchpoints outside of the payroll function. In practical terms, employers should focus on three things: readiness of systems, readiness of data, and readiness of governance.” Watch the full ausbiz interview below.
