Beautiful impact story re: Big Day of Maths Play #PlayItForward
Embracing exploration and play in mathematics has been an ongoing part of my mathematics pedagogy over the years. Thinking Maths PL (shout out to the legendary Maureen & Pauline, IYKYK) sparked my curiosity (and action) in this space and recent involvement with the DfE statewide networks for mathematics has reignited my passion. Yesterday we celebrated the Big Day of Maths Play in my 3/4 class with invitations for maths play and games for students and parents, and then later in the day with our year 2/3 buddies. My students demonstrated collaboration, creativity, curiosity, resourcefulness and resilience during these sessions. Our principal and inclusion leader also came to take part and it was pure joy. “The joy on the children’s faces as they shared their understanding and engaged in rich maths conversations was wonderful. It was such a strong reminder of the power of purposeful learning and the impact of a supportive, well structured learning environment.” I’m already thinking of how to enhance this experiential learning for next time…
