Making change and elevating voices.

About us

Making The Call is where bold voices find their home and fresh talent finds its wings. We’re the cheerleaders, the disruptors, the behind-the-scenes magic-makers opening doors for women and gender-diverse people in sports media. Whether it’s guiding the next generation, connecting game-changers with the industry, or shaking up the status quo, we’re here to make an impact—loudly, proudly, and with a whole lot of heart. We believe in the power of storytelling, the thrill of the game, and the art of making space for voices that need to be heard. Inclusive, curious, and always creative, we’re more than a pathway—we’re a movement. If you’re ready to make the call, how can we help you? ☎️ Emma & Lucy Aaaaand now in corporate speak this is our why… Over the last decade we have seen a rise in the popularity, visibility and participation in women’s sport. Sport is central to the culture and conversations in Australia, and we know that media coverage can shape perceptions and influence social norms and gender stereotypes. While we can see all-female teams participating at the highest levels of competition, we don’t always see the same replicated in the commentary boxes. Women’s voices in sport must be amplified to achieve equity in sport. There is demand for more women’s voices in sport, and whilst opportunities exist in broadcast media, we recognise that the pathways are limited. Making The Call is creating programs and initiatives to help drive gender equality and diversity in all aspects of sports broadcasting. We engage with media industry champions to connect them with women and n.b folk who are skilled in media production across all platforms, skillsets and sports. We also support sports organisations and women with public speaking and coaching programs.

  • Hello to our new followers we are Lucy Race and Emma Race. Welcome to Making The Call. Here’s the 411 (information). Why do these two business owners have the same surname and the same smiley faces? 👯♀️We are sisters who have worked together in sport/media for nine years and we love what we do. If you want to enjoy a giggle with Lucy ask us “Who is older?”🤭 What does “Making The Call” mean? ☎️ Making the decision to follow your ambitions to contribute to the conversations on sport. ☎️ Picking up the phone to connect with a mentor or ask for help. ☎️ To make the calling team in sports broadcasting ☎️ To produce the call of sport ☎️ It might even mean to have a crack at this caper and make the call it isn’t for you. To us @makingthecallpathway is how we support and elevate voices and talent in sports broadcasting. ☎️👯♀️ How can we help you? ➡️ We “make the call” in ALLLLL the ways for the participants of our programs and the peeps we coach 1:1 ⬅️ We take the call from sports orgs and media industry supporters who want to diversify their talent pool and broadcast. The result: MTC GRADS 🤝 Sports/media industry 👯♀️We are working hard to put ourselves out of business. We are glad you are here. ♥️♥️Emma & Lucy

  • If our bio is TL;DR this is what we do: We make the call (media pathway programs grads) and we take the call (from sport & media industry to connect them with talent and help them diversify their teams). We deliver gender equity informed media pathway programs, create networking and connections and deliver MC and public speaking services to organisations. We are working hard to put ourselves out of business. How can we help you? ☎️Emma & Lucy

  • The dog ate our homework. Or at least the internet ate our Linkedin page. Somehow over the summer our account went up in a puff of dry ice, never to be recovered. We had created a great community here so while it is frustrating, we live to rebuild. If you don't know who we are - let us tell you. Making The Call started in 2020 with a conversation between us (sisters) Emma Race and Lucy Race. As broadcasters and producers in the podcasting space (The Outer Sanctum) we recognised that there were pathway programs popping up for women and n.b folk in sporting codes, sports coaching, board rooms and beyond but commentary boxes and sports media were not reflective of the players on the field of our favorite W sports. What started out as a conversation about hosting one zoom meet and greet (it was lockdown) is now a thriving 5 year old business which connects sports broadcasters, writers, producers and creatives with sports industry mentors and decision makers. We specialise in mentoring and coaching for women and n.b folk in sport but we also coach corporate clients in public speaking, MC events, produce sports related podcasts, radio shows and events. We work to make change - not to make money. We mentor to create communities knowing that contribution is core to a sense of purpose and serving society. How can we help you?
