Innovation, learning, and leadership defined #RailSafety26 — but beyond the crucial conversations about national standards and regulatory transformation, two moments truly stood out for me. The first: watching the Next Generation Scholarships evolve into a genuine pathway for emerging rail safety professionals. These aren't just 'future leaders'—they're current contributors whose ideas are already impacting our industry. The second: witnessing what I'm calling the greatest conference finale of all time—The Great Debate on driverless systems. Complete with Dr. Human Error's mortgage-worried SPADs, Commander Caution's big words and a musical rebuttal that swung the audience vote, it proved that open-mindedness, collaboration, and some fun can generate truly unique ideas. Both moments underscored something essential: the power of continuous improvement, creativity, and genuine connection in shaping our industry's future. Here's the full story on why these experiences resonated so deeply (and yes, it runs overtime, but reading it ensures that you don't have a “teeny tiny narrow-gauge mind” 🤣
