About us

Ergon Energy supplies electricity to 746,000 customers across a vast operating area of more than one million square kilometres – around 97% of the state of Queensland – from the expanding coastal and rural population centres to remote communities in outback Queensland and the Torres Strait. We are all about providing safe, reliable, efficient and sustainable energy solutions to support our customers and the Queensland economy. Ergon Energy was formed in 1999 by the Queensland Government from its regional Queensland electricity distributors and their subsidiary retailer. In 2016, we merged with Energex Limited under the newly formed entity Energy Queensland. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians and pay our respect to all Elders past, present and emerging on whose land we walk, work and live on, and their continuing connection to land, sea and community. • 🚛🚚 We 🫶 the Convoy for the Cure and this year's was the biggest yet! A massive thank you to our Townsville crews and their families for being the driving force behind our involvement in this annual event to raise funds towards research into paediatric brain cancer. No doubt it's a long and rocky road for those touched by the disease, but it's uplifting to see the level of community support for their cause.

  • What does our Charters Towers depot have in common with David Attenborough? 🎂 They’re both celebrating their 100th birthday this year! The crews who have called this building their home base over the years have seen a lot of changes, but the original façade remains. Charters Towers is a golden treasure trove for history buffs and we’re proud of our role in powering the community’s past, present and future. ⚡Energy nerds (that's us!) might like to read more on the history of electricity in Charters Towers: https://bit.ly/4v7BZJg Charters Towers Regional Council

  • With just over two weeks until we kick off recruitment for our 2027 apprentice intake, it was great to talk electrical trade opportunities with young people at the NRL Cowboys House careers day. Our Apprentice Program Leader Adrian Goldsworthy and Community Engagement Senior Advisor Kate Austin met with dozens of aspiring future tradies, sharing insights into our upcoming recruitment, what makes a great apprentice, our different trade roles, and the excellent training, pay and conditions we offer. A huge "thank you" to Cowboys Community Foundation for welcoming our team, and to the attendees who kept our stand so busy with their interest and questions. • If there was a beauty contest for energy infrastructure, we’re thinking this might take the crown. The Mossman Gorge Microgrid is not only the first project of its kind in Queensland, it’s now also a work of art. Big props to local artist Karen Gibson, who came up with the incredible design for the unique canvas – a cabinet housing the battery that’s set to be connected to the high-voltage network. The microgrid is located near the entry to the Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre, which attracts tourists from across Australia and around the world. Although nothing compares with the natural wonders this area has to offer, the microgrid is now a worthy background for a selfie for any travellers who happen to cross its path. • A case study on home battery use by our very own Graduate Engineer Emma Dyson is gaining plenty of interest from industry experts. https://lnkd.in/gVnkXzDF

Home batteries are becoming an increasingly important — and behaviourally diverse — part of the market. Using smart meter data from January 15th 2026, this case study by Emma Dyson from Energex and Ergon Energy Network shows that spot-exposed home batteries responded strongly by exporting during a period of high spot prices — while those on traditional retail plans were materially less likely to export during the same period. https://lnkd.in/g4ts2eJH

  • 𝗘𝗿𝗴𝗼𝗻, 𝗖𝗤𝗨𝗻𝗶 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗧 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 We’re proud to celebrate a great success story from our CQUniCares Ergon Energy Network Scholarship program. 👏🎉🎊 Congratulations to Michael Barrie, our 2025 scholarship recipient, who recently graduated with his Certificate III in Information Technology. Michael’s achievement is a fantastic example of how targeted support can help students succeed and take the next step in their careers. Through our ongoing partnership with CQUniversity, we financially support students studying IT from regional communities right across Queensland. The program is about so much more than scholarships: it's about investing in local talent, removing financial barriers to education, and helping build a pipeline of skilled, future-ready IT professionals who may one day join our workforce. We’re committed to continuing this important partnership and enabling more students like Michael to pursue their education, grow their skills, and contribute to regional Queensland’s future. Well done, Michael — we wish you every success in the next chapter of your IT career. #CQUniCares #ErgonEnergyNetwork #Scholarships #RegionalQueensland #BuildingFutureTalent #ITCareers #PartnershipsThatMatter

  • On ANZAC Day, we recognise the commitment of so many in our communities, and a large number of our own employees, in the service of our nation as members of the Australian Defence Force. We honour the immense sacrifice of Australia’s 89,000 active servicepeople who bear the legacy of the half-million-plus Aussie soldiers, sailors and airforce personnel who went before. At a time when peace feels particularly fragile, we hold in gratitude all who seek to maintain security, safety and stability; whether at ANZAC Cove 111 years ago, or working this very morning to provide disaster relief and humanitarian aid. To those who serve today, to their families, and to all who have gone before, we thank you. • Although the 2025-26 storm season is (hopefully, finally) in the rear-vision mirror, the previous summer is still very fresh in our minds. One of the most challenging periods for our teams and our customers last year was the immense flood that swamped Ingham, including our substation. We didn't just repair - we've also raised key equipment and ramped up flood monitoring; meaning more resilient power for Ingham and beyond.

Helping communities stay connected during disasters is a priority. That means keeping roads open, and also keeping the lights on 💡 When Ingham flooded in February 2025, the town's substation went underwater, leaving the community without power for over a week. Immediate action was taken by Ergon Energy Network and Hinchinbrook Shire Council to repair the asset, and $1.61 million was secured for resilient upgrades. Data from the QRA Flood team was key to delivering flood protection enhancements for Ingham Substation. This allowed Ergon to raise the height of critical infrastructure above 2025 flood levels, install a sophisticated flood monitoring system, and improve the network control centre. The end result is an energy supply that local residents, businesses and industry can rely on, in all weather conditions. For the Ingham community, this means one less worry when the next flood arrives.
