Honoured to take part in these conversations ... following the excellent report on AI in the courts from the Victorian Law Reform Commission.
Our chair, the Hon. Tony North KC, last week joined an expert panel for an engaging and thought-provoking discussion on the ethical challenges posed by AI for legal practitioners. Organised by the Legal Services Network, the event brought together about 80 lawyers from across the Victorian Government for this timely and important conversation. Mr North drew on insights from our recently-released Artificial Intelligence in Victoria’s Courts and Tribunals report, highlighting the importance of transparency and principle-based regulatory frameworks in the responsible adoption of AI. He was joined by panellists Professor Ian Freckelton AO KC, Victorian Legal Services Commissioner Fiona McLeay and Professor Jeannie Marie Paterson Jeannie Paterson, along with moderator Sally Winton, Executive Director and General Counsel at the Department of Justice and Community Safety.
