The next chapter of Made in Germany begins with #DeepTech. Yesterday in Berlin, we presented our new #BCG study together with the BDI - Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie e.V. on how Germany can secure a leading position in future technologies and boost its competitiveness. The message is clear: the future doesn’t wait. It starts now. Our study shows the immense scale of the opportunity: By 2030, Deep Tech could create €8 trillion in value worldwide. Yet less than 10% of global Deep Tech unicorns are European today, and around half of late-stage funding comes from outside the EU. We need to take huge steps in order to keep up with the US and China in this highly competitive race. 🚀 Austria's startup ecosystem hits a major milestone: Emmi AI has just secured the country's largest-ever seed funding round — raising €15 million! The Linz-based deep-tech startup, spun off from NXAI, is transforming industrial simulations. By leveraging AI, Emmi AI replaces slow numerical calculations with rapid predictions of complex physical processes — from aerodynamics to material deformation — enabling businesses to create digital twins and significantly accelerate their design processes. The pioneering team includes CEO Dennis Just, AI researcher Johannes Brandstetter (formerly Microsoft), and Miks Mikelsons (ex-Lokalise). Investors in this landmark round include 3VC, Speedinvest, PUSH, and Serena, valuing the startup between up to 100 million! 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱-𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱-𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽𝘀? In my latest contribution to VC Magazin, I explore how closer #collaboration between universities, industry, and the startup ecosystem can unlock transformation – especially in deeptech. The insight is simple: scientific excellence alone doesn’t lead to innovation impact. What we need are: 🔹 Early IP clarity and spin-out support 🔹 Entrepreneurial mindsets at universities 🔹 Strong incentives for researchers and professors to commercialize their ideas 🔹 And, above all, systematic bridges between science and market As I said in the interview for the article, 𝙂𝙚𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙮 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙖 𝙥𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙪𝙡 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝 𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙚, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙬𝙚 𝙤𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙣 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣. Especially in areas like AI, energy, and biotech, the potential is enormous – if we get the translation process right. Why the Future of AI in Europe Might Just Begin in Tirol 🇦🇹🤖 What a great pleasure to be featured in the Tiroler Tageszeitung – a big thank you to the editorial team and especially to Nina Werlberger for the engaging interview and insightful article! 🙏 Over the last few years, I’ve put a lot of energy into building something quite special in Tirol: a place where international AI minds, clients, and our team can come together to learn, experiment, and collaborate – our very own Data.Castle in Kaltenbach. 🏰 Inspired by Silicon Valley retreats, this space blends deep tech with the alpine magic of the Zillertal.  From our Austrian HQ in Innsbruck, we’re now driving projects that range from predictive quality assurance in manufacturing to Austria’s most-discussed employment-matching AI – and currently we are developing "Haidi", a digital receptionist for hotels to tackle the region’s skilled labor shortage (=Fachkräftemangel). The momentum is real. One thing is crystal clear to me: if we want the value creation of AI to stay in Europe, we must do the work here. Build here. Test here. Deploy here. 🇪🇺 And yes, AI will change jobs. But mostly, it will take over the repetitive tasks that no one wants to do anyway – and free up space for more meaningful work. We need to have this conversation in a pragmatic, opportunity-driven way. 📍 Tirol is not just a scenic region. It’s quickly becoming a hidden champion in AI-driven transformation. And that makes me optimistic – not just for Austria, but for all of Europe. Let’s shape the future together.

🦾 German tech giants unite to build Europe’s first AI superhub, aka "Stargate" SAP, Deutsche Telekom, IONOS, the Schwarz Gruppe, and Siemens plan to establish a large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) data center in Germany. This initiative aims to strengthen Europe’s digital sovereignty and enhance its competitiveness in the global AI arena. 🇪🇺 The consortium intends to apply for funding from the European Union’s “InvestAI” program, which was introduced by EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at the AI Action Summit in Paris. This program includes a €20 billion fund designated to support the development of five AI “gigafactories” across Europe, scheduled to commence operations from 2026. Each facility is expected to be equipped with approximately 100,000 next-generation AI chips, quadrupling the capacity of current AI infrastructures. These centers will focus on training complex AI models, particularly for applications in medicine and scientific research. SAP board member Thomas Saueressig emphasized the necessity of partnership for such a project, stating that discussions are ongoing regarding the optimal model for collaboration. Ionos CEO Achim Weiss highlighted the initiative as a significant step towards achieving greater digital autonomy and confirmed plans to participate in the EU’s funding application process.
