#InFocus 🌍 The second Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) in Kyrgyzstan expands access to services for potential migrants across the region on safe and legal migration, and raises awareness on the risks of irregular migration and threats of human trafficking. 🤝 On 22 May 2026, the European Union, the Kyrgyz Ministry of Labour, Social Security, Migration, and ICMPD jointly inaugurated the MRC in Bishkek. 🤝 The new MRC in Bishkek is Kyrgyzstan's second, after the opening of the Osh centre in 2024, expanding a regional network of four MRCs in Central Asia, including Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and Dushanbe, Tajikistan. 💬 Nicola Graviano, ICMPD Deputy Director of Migration Dialogues and Cooperation, highlighted the strong, valued cooperation with Kyrgyzstan and the EU in expanding the MRC network. 📌 The MRC will expand its outreach in Kyrgyzstan, support the Kyrgyz Centre for Employment of Citizens Abroad (CECA) safe migration caravan, work with local institutions, and involve community leaders to promote awareness of effective migration. 🔗 Learn more at: https://lnkd.in/ddAJND_P #MigrantResourceCentres #LegalandLabourMobility #IrregularMigration #Migration European Commission Radim Zak Xenia Pilipenko

🎉 Join us to celebrate and reflect on the 10th anniversary of Migrant Resource Centres (MRCs). Did you know?  💡The MRC concept emerged in 2013 during a Budapest Process meeting in Islamabad, emphasising the need for reliable migration information and guidance. 💡The MRCs are multi-purpose service points for migrants, returnees and communities - one of ICMPD's flagship initiatives. 💡In 2016, the first MRC opened in Lahore with national and international cooperation. 💡Currently, 10 MRCs are operational, supported by 54 staff, covering Afghanistan (online), Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. 🎉 The 10th anniversary is an opportunity to evaluate the MRC model's impact on migration governance challenges in the Silk Routes region, with a key feature being its incorporation into national systems from the outset. 🤝 For the next decade, the founding principle remains unchanged: migration decisions should be guided by credible information. 📌 Throughout 2026, the anniversary is celebrated across MRC operating countries and across ICMPD, with regional exchanges, high-level events and media engagements. 🔗Discover more about the MRCs 10th anniversary at: https://lnkd.in/ebr7pWQm

#InFocus 🌍 Ahead of the full implementation of the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum, ICMPD supported Romania in hosting the first live simulation to test coordination and response system capacities of asylum centres. 🤝 The exercise highlighted the functioning of inter-institutional cooperation mechanisms among relevant national authorities and competent institutions involved in migration management, border governance, protection, emergency response, and social assistance. 🤝 The exercise gathered over 200 officials and experts, international partners and civil society, whose involvement supported the sound application of procedures. 💬  Alfred Woeger, Senior Project Manager for ICMPD Member States Programme, highlighted that effective crisis response depends on preparing, coordinating, and testing the systems ahead of emergencies; to ensure that systems can function effectively under pressure. 📌 The exercise was conducted under the ICMPD TSI Romania 2025 project (Technical Support Instrument), funded by the European Commission via SG REFORM. 🔗 Learn more at: https://lnkd.in/dxBhfFCn #Migration #EUPact #Asylum #BorderManagement Malin Frankenhaeuser Tony Stefan Mihaitoaia ICMPD Policy & Research
