Increasing rail capacity means more than simply adding more trains. The Tampere–Jyväskylä railway development project improves traffic flow and reliability along a critical section of Finland’s rail network. The project includes measures such as new passing loops, track realignments, and double-track solutions to support both current operations and future demand. AFRY has been entrusted with a central role in this project by Väylävirasto / Trafikledsverket / Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency. Our multidisciplinary expertise, built on experience from major railway projects in Europe, spans railway, geotechnical, road, bridge, tunnel, and environmental design. 🚆 Learn more about the project: https://lnkd.in/dGqMV47P #makingfuture

Introduce a Girl to Engineering day (IGEday) sparks curiosity about the engineering profession among young girls and non-binary individuals. 🚀 On March 20, we hosted IGEday at our Swedish offices in Malmö, Trollhättan, and Borlänge. During the day, participants gained insight into the engineering profession. Through interactive activities and meetings with female role models, they experienced how technology can solve real societal challenges and contribute to a sustainable future. A huge thanks to all participants, colleagues, and our partner Womengineer for making this day possible! 💡 #makingfuture

Strengthening our position in the Norwegian energy sector⚡ We’re proud to be entrusted by Statnett with a central role as client representative and project management partner for the new transformer substation at Onarheim. The new substation will be developed as a 420/300/132 kV transformer substation, and the project will contribute to increased capacity, improved operational reliability, and greater flexibility in the power system. “This is a complex project where we take on a comprehensive responsibility for execution. We are pleased with the continued trust from Statnett and look forward to carrying the project from the planning phase into construction,” says Fredrik Persson, Head of Segment Transmission & Distribution, AFRY. ➡️ Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dsizxgaW #makingfuture

AFRY is working with Boliden Kokkola Oy to enhance material sustainability through innovative sulphur concentrate processing. By developing a robust process for treating sulphur concentrate, this initiative enables CO₂-free electricity generation, sulphuric acid production, and the recovery of valuable metals. It advances circular economy principles and sets new standards for zinc production. This project demonstrates how proven technologies can be applied in new ways to create long-term value and set benchmarks for sustainability in the industry. Financial incentives are one of the strongest drivers of the energy transition, yet today they often point in the opposite direction. In our latest Fossil Detox Progress Report, we break down why fossil subsidies still dominate and what’s needed to redirect capital toward a credible, resilient net zero pathway. 👇 Swipe through the carousel for key insights.

The way we stabilize power systems is fundamentally changing. As synchronous machines retire and non‑synchronous penetration rises, grid operators face increasingly complex challenges: weak grid conditions, reduced short‑circuit strength, higher sensitivity to disturbances, and growing reliance on converter‑based resources. In our latest whitepaper, The next wave of power: Grid forming solutions, we explain, why grid‑forming control is now essential, and provide insights on how operators can specify, test, and validate its performance. AFRY chosen as Wega's partner for the pre-engineering of the Southwest Finland biorefinery The energy company Wega has selected AFRY as its partner for the pre-engineering of the planned Southwest Finland biorefinery. During the pre-engineering phase, the technical solutions of the plant, such as process technologies and the produced fertilizer and gas fractions, will be refined. Once implemented, the planned biogas plant would be the largest in Finland. Project in a nutshell: 🌱 Processes 600,000 tons of raw materials annually, including manure, agricultural biomass, and clean side streams from the food industry. ⚡ Produces 360 GWh of liquefied methane per year. ♻️ Supports sustainable agriculture and nutrient recycling and represents a significant step towards energy self-sufficiency, circular economy solutions, and the protection of the Baltic Sea. "We are grateful to Wega for trusting our expertise. This project combines goals that are important to us, such as enhancing energy self-sufficiency and circular economy as well as and protecting the Baltic Sea," says Antti Hahtala, Head of AFRY's Chemicals & Biorefining business in Finland. The investment decision for the plant is planned for 2027. Read more: https://lnkd.in/d4_aA2uR Image: Wega #MakingFuture #CircularEconomy

The shift toward grid-forming isn’t a future challenge; it’s a regulatory reality today. Across global markets, grid codes are moving from guidance to mandates. Our new whitepaper "The next wave of power: Grid forming solutions" outlines why: ➡️ New policies now require renewable and storage plants to actively support grid stability, not just inject power. ➡️ EMT‑based performance validation is becoming a standard requirement for new and retrofitted assets. ➡️ Weak grid conditions and high non‑synchronous penetration demand outcome‑based specifications, not generic “capabilities.” ➡️ Operators who adopt grid-forming early reduce curtailment, improve reliability, and avoid costly retrofits later. For leaders making infrastructure, regulatory or investment decisions, this whitepaper provides clarity on why the shift is happening, and what it means for future system design, market frameworks, and grid resilience planning. ⬇️ Download your copy for free here https://bit.ly/4lbfy2c #makingfuture
