FEATURED GAME

Dash Downhill in Alto’s Adventure

A beloved snowboarding game comes to the Mac.

Although centered on the typically extreme sport of snowboarding, Alto’s Adventure is really chill. No hand plants or cross rockets here. You simply slide down hills and mountains, jumping and gliding in a soothing rhythm.

“We tried to capture a feeling of peace and serenity—a place players could escape to,” says Harry Nesbitt, Team Alto’s lead artist and programmer.

Originally released for iPhone and iPad, the game is among the most beautiful ever made for any platform—and looks breathtaking on larger monitors.

“We want Alto to feel at home on the Mac,” says Jason Medeiros, head of design and engineering. “This means some interesting things for a videogame. For instance, you can resize the window and enter full-screen.”

Complete challenges to unlock new playable characters.

The team didn’t want to bog players down with fussy details, like esoteric graphics settings. “We don’t want our players thinking about that, so we handle those details automatically,” Medeiros says. And the game can be played as you wish—with a mouse, trackpad, keyboard, or game controller.

The Mac version also supports iCloud save syncing, which means your progress glides seamlessly across your iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
