Editors’ Choice celebrates the very best apps and games—handpicked by App Store Editors around the world.

By channeling ancient philosophers, stoic. helps us connect to our own inner wisdom and self-understanding—one journal entry at a time.

We knew we loved it when: stoic. guided us effortlessly into a daily journaling habit. Creating time for reflection can feel daunting, but the app’s morning and evening prompts eased that friction. When pondering the question “What are you going to do for yourself today?”, we felt empowered to prioritize self-care in small ways (like a quick lunchtime walk). And winding down by examining what overwhelmed us that day helped us navigate the next.

Jump right into morning or evening reflections from the Home tab (left), or explore guided journals, exercises, and more.

Our favorite discovery: The way the app thoughtfully breaks down complex topics, like understanding our fears and navigating stress or holiday emotions. These tap-through guides (found in the library of journal templates) summarize big philosophical ideas (like Henri Bergson’s teachings on intuition). By journaling through them at the end of each exercise, we were able to unlock new insights we might not have discovered on our own.

As you journal, select a philosopher or historical figure to inform AI-generated reflection questions—like Funky Frida, inspired by painter Frida Kahlo.

Our biggest surprise: The app provides the GAD-7 and PHQ-9 questionnaires—standard assessments used by mental health experts to measure anxiety and depression, respectively. By having easy access to these (and making space to take them regularly), we were able to track our progress and even share our results with health professionals.
