Whether you want to write a poem about outer space or create a training plan for a half-marathon, ChatGPT can help. Here are five tips for leveraging this game-changing generative AI app.

1. Tackle multistep tasks
ChatGPT’s Agent mode browses the web, researches, and handles repetitive actions for you—while still giving you full control. With one prompt, it can research data, make a spreadsheet, and turn that into a slide deck. ChatGPT subscribers can access the feature by tapping the plus-sign button next to the chat text box and selecting “Agent mode.”
Don’t miss: The agent can also help you buy items. We asked the app to create a logo for a fictional small business, then print 100 stickers that could be delivered by next week. It found a printer that could meet the deadline, uploaded the image to the vendor’s site, and alerted us to enter our payment information.
2. Organize your chat threads
Ever have trouble finding a helpful answer from ChatGPT, or have related responses (like hotel deals and tourist attractions) in different threads? Create a new Project (found in the main menu) to start a hub for related inquiries.
Don’t miss: Within your project, add photos and files to give ChatGPT more context. For instance, share a picture of a beach and ask where to go for a similar vibe on a budget of $1,000 for a three-night vacation.

3. Start a group chat
Collaborate with friends and ChatGPT at the same time (and save a step when organizing a party or studying together). To invite others to a chat, tap the person icon on the top right.
Don’t miss: You can share custom instructions about your group with the app, like goals, preferences, and even inside references. To try this out, select the person icon and tap Customize ChatGPT while in a group chat.
4. Find bargains
Tell ChatGPT what product you’re looking for (like a 65-inch TV that looks good in a bright room) and share your budget. The app will give you a shortlist that takes online reviews into account. Tap the plus-sign button next to the chat text box and select “Shopping research” to try the feature.
Don’t miss: Prefer to buy secondhand? The tool can also search online marketplaces.

5. Tailor ChatGPT to your tastes
You can customize ChatGPT’s tone to make it more professional, friendly, candid, or even cynical. To pick your preference, go to Settings > Personalisation and select from the drop-down menu at the top. Want ChatGPT to sound like Gen Z? Select that icon in the Personalisation menu under Custom Instructions.
Don’t miss: You can also choose how you want ChatGPT to sound. Pick from nine personas in the Voice Mode section in the app’s settings.
