GAMES WE LOVE

Are You a Mind Reader?

Think alike to win in this party-game favorite.

Is a hedgehog a round animal or a pointy animal? Is a bidet a weird thing to own or totally normal? In the raucous party game Wavelength, your goal is to think like your fellow players. Type a clue that’ll get teammates to set a needle as close to the “wavelength” scale target as possible—and the nearer the marker, the more points the team earns. So get in their heads!

What we love: The lively debates. Unlike its board game cousin, this digital take on Wavelength is a purely cooperative affair: You’re aiming for a high score as a team, and discussing where to set the needle is all kinds of fun. Is Avatar a good movie or not so much? Let the arguments begin!

We hate to admit it, but a fast car is definitely more “want” than “need.” Good clue!

Quick tip: Play to your teammates’ passions! For example, if you’re aiming slightly right of center on a spectrum of “villain” to “hero”—and you happen to know they’re Harry Potter fans—try Professor Snape as a clue. They might agree he started out as a baddie but ultimately did more good than harm, putting the needle right on the money!

Meet the creator: CMYK spent years designing tabletop party games (including Wavelength) before moving into the digital realm. They were inspired to make the app after seeing fans create socially distanced versions of the game in early 2020, using clever hacks like a webcam pointed at the spectrum dial.
