I have used multiple different sunrise/sunset apps, and Aplenglow is by far the best one. I can honestly say, that without an ounce of doubt, that if this app says that it’ll be a good sunset, then it will absolutely be a good one. Since I travel extensively for my job, I have used this app to try and find out when there will be a beautiful sunset that I can photograph, and share it with my wife so that we can “share” the experience via FaceTime. Thanks to this app, when I was working out at North Island Naval Air Station in San Diego, I was able to choose the right day to head out to Sunset Cliffs National Park and share a West Coast Sunset with my wife in Florida. I HIGHLY recommend this app for anyone trying to track the sunrise/sunset…Addendum: I’ve dropped my rating by one star due to some instances of extreme inaccuracy. Usually the erroneous percentages are on days when the forecast is “poor” or “fair,” but there have also been a couple times when a “good” or “great” sunrise/sunset ended up being mediocre at best. That said, the initial review still stands, as MORE OFTEN THAN NOT, the forecast is relatively accurate. I have read other reviews and comments from the developer, that point out the fact that the local weather forecast is not always accurate, which is a fair statement. I do wonder though, why I have read replies from the developer that says he’s been working on improvements and attempting to work with local news outlets (and other methods of making this app better) that have read the same way for two years of reviews…I have to wonder if there have been any actual improvement updates…regardless, this app is one of the best for this particular purpose
Thanks for the update and totally fair to question the replies going so far back mentioning the same project. Alpenglow is a side project that I work on during my days off and as such the updates can take a little bit longer than I would like. I've fortunately been in a position where I've now got someone else working on this project with me in a part time capacity. The next update will introduce a new inspector view which allows you to view forecast information from Apple Weather to help confirm/reject the sunrise/sunset forecasts based on more up to date forecast data and conditions. Part of the slowness in this area has been learning on the job, I'm not a a weather expert by any means so ensuring the output is good enough before I implement it is taking longer than I originally hoped. I'm glad you're finding the app useful even with the odd outlier forecast putting a downer on things. Please share these via the field reports as they are being taken into account.
