So many good things about LinkedIn Learning, so many missed opportunities to be Great. For example, I am watching on a tablet with a keyboard connected. The video cannot be moved forward or backwards with standard arrow keys as you would with many other video codecs. This causes me to pause in my learning to make the video navigate while I am actively following along. This wastes my time and attention to the content. This one change to their codec would make learning so much more efficient.
This review is not regarding the content of Lynda now LinkedIn learning. This is regarding the app. And oh boy is it a disappointment! I have just come from the Lynda app which is light years ahead and it is beyond me that LinkedIn did not rename it and use that app! Simple things such as landscape mode not being available. I thought it must be some setting that I was missing but found when googling for a solution that this ‘problem’ has existed since 2015!! That is 3 years and is inexcusable. Just as it is inexcusable to be told we are working on it or some such standardized fob off as I can see has been the repetitive response here when people have expressed their concerns. Responses like that indicate strongly that one can expect an equally poor service. Likewise being able to see the videos on TV. Lynda had an app for Apple TV simple, efficient and it worked. Needless to say when an app like this is so primitive it can’t even function in landscape mode I feared the worst. And my fears were confirmed no streaming or easy possibilities for watching videos on smart TV’sCome ON LinkedIn! You can do better than this. If you won’t use the Lynda app then engage one of the many programmers doing courses on LinkedIn Learning to either give YOU lot a quick course on how to program this app, or let them create the app!So the short and the long: if you still have access to your Lynda app do NOT give it up you will truly regret it. As for the rest unfortunately you are stuck with this but you will at least not be experiencing the massive downgrade that those of us who are used to the Lynda app suffer.A sloppy and clumsy app, what a disappointment.

If you’re looking for a lecture, it’s decent. I have a free membership thru my work enterprise, which, honestly, is the only reason I use it. I don’t see ANYTHING with this app that makes it better value than lecture based competitors like udemy, courses, etc. If you want to learn a technical skill this app is extremely difficult to use. Lecture exercises can be files up to 2gb -zipped-. So in addition to taking forever to download, I found the exercise files I pretty useless. It’s a swivel chair nightmare and there is no time built in or guides that even tell you when to open the exercises. Additionally, the files I’ve seen are more samples than actual exercises to go thru. Many don’t even have instructions enclosed. I’d much rather get a copy of the PowerPoints the instructors use (which, oddly, seems to be the only thing omitted from giant exercise files) or cheat sheets to help me in the real world. Having a format where student can practice and learn-by-doing (a la Codecademy, even lightbot) would be ideal, but I realized this is a lot of work and MONEY that probably won’t be invested. Shame.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the LinkedIn Learning app. We'll pass your comments upward to our team here. If there is any additional feedback you'd like to provide, please email us at https://lnkd.in/gTDpRr6. Thank you! -JC
Have used for several years, on and off, usually through a work subscription. Here are some general thoughts:- Content is good, but less robust than other learning platforms lke Coursera. This can be good or bad, sometimes a short course on a timely topic is what I need. Sometimes, though, it would be nice to go deeper on a topic. You can create a collection, which is kind of the same idea, but because the content is developed separately, you may experience some overlap between courses. Ideally it would scaffold topics within a learning objective so you don’t have to piece together courses in order to achieve your learning objective- Technically, it’s okay, but I recently found when trying to bookmark a course, the pop-up notification asking if I wanted to create a collection would freeze any other inputs. Videos would keep playing, but there was no response to scrolling or other touch inputs, including that x-out to close the notification. I’d have to restart the app every time I bookmarked a course. Happens from both the topic list view and within the course view (iPad Pro 12.9, 3rd gen, iOS 15.1).So, lots to be happy about, a couple of bugs to resolve, and library that probably has something useful for you, but may not be as robust as a Coursera or other learning platform.
I’ve done one course using this app on iPad and for the most part, I like it. My one complaint has to do with the controls for playing the videos. More often than not, I need to go back and repeat a little portion in order to hear or see some detail. However, there is no Reverse 15 Seconds or Fast Forward 15 Seconds (or whatever value) like in so many video players. That and the ability to have the progress bar always visible so it is easy to pause, instead of having to touch the screen to bring up the bar and then hitting pause. One other thing is that with the way the controls are organized, when you pause the video, the Play button is right in the middle of the screen and this can be inconvenient if you’re trying to see some detail onscreen. Overall a good app, but it could use some more user friendly controls
I love the service, but the app is surprisingly not great UX and has some missing features or logical capabilities. I just recently began using LinkedIn Learning and planned to primarily use it on iOS. Unfortunately, I’ve run into a few snags with the iOS app that I’m hoping leaving a review will help the feedback get to the developers to be fixed or made more clear. 1. I created a collection on mobile with the intention of organizing the large volume of courses I’ve saved. — I can’t figure out how to access a collection after its creation. — When adding courses to a collection, I can’t figure out whether it’s possible to select multiple courses and “bulk” add them to a collection. Right now, I’m going through a huge list of saved courses adding to a collection one by one.2. Can’t disable the banner notification for “course saved” or “course added to collection.” They don’t auto-dismiss — I have to close each notification one at a time after they stack up while I’m saving courses. At one point there were more than 40 “course saved” notifications and I had to close each banner one by one. Turning off in-app notification didn’t help. And then the same thing happened when later wanted to organize the courses into collections. I hope the developers will utilize this feedback and fix the above issues.
