“Dictionaries” is an electronic dictionary viewer app made to allow you to efficiently use various dictionaries. As with the popular iOS app, you can search multiple dictionaries at once. You can purchase and use a variety of dictionaries, including English, Japanese, French or other language dictionaries, from the “Dictionary Store” which can be accessed from within the app. Purchased dictionaries can be used on both iOS and macOS with the Universal Purchase. You can also share your dictionaries with your family through Family Sharing. Searches • Batch Search (Consolidated Search) allows searching multiple dictionaries at once. • The display order of dictionaries used in the batch search can be customized. • Using Pattern Search, you can search for words even if a part of the spelling is unknown. Trace and Jump • You can easily jump to not only other words in the same dictionary but other dictionaries as well simply by ⌘ + dragging words in a definition, allowing you to go on a journey of intellectual curiosity through the dictionary as their hearts desire. Collection • Purchased dictionaries are shown as icons on the Collection screen. • By opening a dictionary from the Collection screen, you can also carefully go through a single dictionary. Even in this case, you can use the “Trace and Jump” function to easily jump to another dictionary. • The display order of dictionary icons on the Collection screen can be changed to the user's preference. Bookmarks • You can bookmark their favorite words. In addition, you can also efficiently categorize these bookmarks using the Bookmark Folder. • By turning on Quick Bookmark, you can quickly add/remove bookmarks simply by tapping the Bookmark icon. Search History • In History, display frequency is automatically recorded so that you can immediately recognize words they search for repeatedly. iCloud • You can synchronize Bookmark and History data among all devices by turning on iCloud. Dark Background Colors • Automatically Switch to a dark background color according to the dark mode in macOS. Dark background colors improve concentration abilities. Multiple windows and tabs • You can open multiple windows or tabs. You can view multiple dictionaries at the same time to search and compare explanations. Substantial Lineup • The Dictionary Store carries a large number of full-scale dictionaries, and we plan to further improve this selection in the future as well. • The following English dictionaries are available as of July 2021. High quality app - a feature suggestion

Love this app and the fact that I can use it on both MacOS and iOS - game changer. Developers, I have two requests for you: 1. As part of your URL scheme support, can you please consider expanding the query string support to include being able to specify the “Starts with”, “Equals”, “Ends with”, “Contains”, and “Pattern”? Without this control, the application forces “Equals” every time I trigger an OS-level lookup that is sent to the Dictionaries app. 2. Can you leave the current search dropdown settings exactly as they are in the app so that if a user has it set to “Starts with” and “Example”, should they trigger a search via Cmd+Shift+D, it leaves those settings as they were? Much appreciated!

Amazing J-J Dictionary App

I’ve been using this app daily for just over five years now, and it makes looking up words incredibly easy regardless of the device I’m on. With dictionaries like 大辞泉, I love how it displays synonyms for words that I can easily jump to. It’s also fantastic for looking up individual kanji when used with dictionaries like 漢検漢字辞典. Lastly, I really like the bookmark feature, because as someone who uses Japanese for creative writing, I can come back to interesting words I found, in the instance that I want to use them in my stories.I would highly recommend this app to any learner of Japanese, especially those who are starting to use J-J dictionaries.

Things I love: -Clean design, very easy to use and lots of visibility and other settings (font size, search order)-AMAZING content (everything from learners dictionaries to big expensive unabridged dictionaries like Reader's, Random House, and Kenkyusha, and the Robert French-Japanese dictionaries). This has replaced my trusty old Casio Electronic Dictionary. -One purchase is shareable between all devices-- I use this app and its contents on my iphone, ipad, and Mac, syncing seamlessly. -Great support: whenever I have had any issues, I get polite and helpful replies from the Japanese staff. Things that could get better:-Just keep adding content. The Kanjigen kanji dictionary, and the Kenkyusha Shin Ei-Wa Daijiten are two that I would be very excited about. -To people who aren't used to spending money on a dictionary, relying on free dictionary databases, or the internet, I would just say that I've found the quality of definitions and examples to always be worth the price in the long run!HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

This application works so well when you have multiple high quality dictionaries that you will never want to use anything else again! They recently added a grammar dictonary as well. So when you input something to look up, you are given a whole range of knowledge depending on what books you purchase in the app. It is fast and well polished and it only gets better as time goes on with more book options being added all the time. This is the one app that keeps me on Apple devices!
