Students and knowledge-seekers will love learning about a huge range of topics with this fantastic educational app. Spanning everything from global warming to the art of Frida Kahlo, BrainPOP’s animated movies pack a ton of information into just a few minutes, using a conversational style that’s easy to understand. And because each movie is followed by a quiz that records grades, teachers can ensure students understand the material. With dozens of free movies and hundreds more available with a paid subscription, BrainPOP Featured Movie is an excellent resource for any classroom.
First, we love brainpop in general. Second, this app works better than most. We don't have a subscription yet, but I am definitely going to get one. The app allows you to watch one video a day without paying. The video is always timely. For example, George Washington's birthday or Black history month will have videos related to those topics. We have never had a video stall and the quiz at the end is great. My 7 yo and I walked into school discussing manifest destiny today, much to the librarians amazement. I don't expect my daughter to remember manifest destiny from today's video, but her interest in the topic made it fun to talk about. Great job!Update: I purchased the full access subscription. However, we don't seem to be able to access all of the video content. Half the time it says a subscription is required and won't let us watch it, but the app had let us watch a different subscription required video only a minute before. I've logged in correctly, deleted and reinstalled, and rebooted the subscription and nothing has changed. There is a set and growing list of videos she would like to watch that are off limits to her due to this problem. If this does not change I will have to cancel our subscription.
This app was great when it was free and then got even better when they came up with the subscriber option that let's you browse through the entire catalog. I especially like the "related movies" feature which let's my kid focus on a topic in depth (simple machines is a favorite) or else wander the universe of human knowledge. The videos are short and bring even complex topics down to a child's level. We read and converse broadly as a family, but this brings up new topics for discussion that wouldn't have occurred to me otherwise (e.g., operant conditioning). My children are entertained and they retain more of what they learn than I'd expect. My 5 year old recently impressed Grandpa with his fairly detailed understanding of ear anatomy and hearing. This is the only app I pay for and the only app I have ever felt worth the investment of time to write a review. And I wrote a pretty long one. That, right there, should tell you everything you need to know
Before my daughter decided to become a 'tween' (I hate that word), we spent many Summer afternoons learning, bonding &'watching the amazing content on this app. Not only were the little films interesting & engaging to her, a child, less than 10....but I enjoyed them too! Not to mention. I,began recalling all those 'boring' things we learned about in Science or History class, which led to more conversation & quality time. The content is incredibly varied...and while most kids over 4 will be able to glean at least some knowledge, (the 7+ will easily recall & learn from most things), the information is conveyed in a wide range of styles, all which will keep most kids & parents interested. I know this app helped my daughter successfully navigate grade school, plus opened her mind to interests & knowledge that may not be covered until a later grade. I highly recommend loading this & pulling it out the 1st time you hear 'I'm bored', because it will leave your child asking for more.
BrainPOP's Daily Feature application is great for learning about various content from personal health to concepts of mathematics on a day-to-day basis. The app features a different video daily (the featured video on the site), a sentence relating to the video of the day, and a fixed amount of additional movies for viewing pleasure. The video quality is precise and informative; however, the videos cannot go into too much detail, but the web version provides additional content relating to the video. The reason this app is rated four stars is because the UI (user interface) of this app is unlike the web version. The web version has more content, but most content can be accessed by creating an account (it charges, but BrainPOP is ad-free). In conclusion, the application is not enough compared to the web version, but is worth the money (it's free) given in terms of content. Overall, great job for the development of this app; it could really use the web UI version, though.
This is a great app! It a great resource to learn some simple thing we haven't really thought or know about. Yeah it's about learning, but this helped my understand more about wars, health, and some cool other stuff. It would be great if parents would make the kids do at least one every day because these guys are finding the simplest mysterious of life. Do I recommend? Yes. Positive. If you need information about something or need a clearer view of something, this app does it. I hope this gets much more credit than it already has. And the best part is I think I got this for free. Amazing app an I hope many of the downloaders enjoy and use their knowledge for life. This app actually made me used my computer to see more videos. Great job producers! Keep it up. Make a Spanish app version of this. Just a suggestion. Anyway, great app! I'll be just waiting for tomorrow to see the video of the day.
For a longtime I used only the free version but recently indulged in the full version when I realized that the kids liked this just as much as cartoons and would watch these together while I slept in a little on the weekend. Reduces my screen time guilt. Additionally, I'm a scientist and have really appreciated how well the videos present science ideas at a basic level for kids and have even considered using a few of them in my college level intro classes. Highly recommend this app for everyone. It's also a very accessible app for kids on the middle to high end of the spectrum. My son will literally study one video clip for an hour and then be able to explain the entire thing to me or his teachers or anyone else who will listen. For perspective my kids started using this app when they were 4 and 7 and are still using it a lot a year later.
