Would be nice if we could pay our subscription fee with ffxiv companion apps. Instead of going into websites! Where many people got phished while using the website. Ffxiv could implement vpn and anti-virus. Not only a subscription purchases for FFXIV instead of going to website that is less security than the ffxiv companion apps!

When I downloaded it I thought I was getting an app that would help me find mobs, has guides, and tips. It’s not that. It’s a discord for people without discord I guess. I can barely operate the app. I keep accidentally editing the homepage. I have no idea what use this could be for. The market thing isn’t helpful, and the ventures you can’t even choose the one you want. You have to go in game to do the longer ones. I’d like the job guides, events, updates, world boss timers, pot timers, server info’s. Maybe even a mini version of my house on the app. That way I could log into the app and handle stuff from inside my house. That would be difficult but just an idea of something better than what the app currently is….Something that I would actually find useful.Take a look at the Dodo companion app for ark. That thing used to slap back in the day. Wouldn’t need to go to anyone else’s website, just toss up the app and I can find any info I needed. Like a mini encyclopedia of the game. AN ACTUAL USEFUL APP. Here is another idea for you, Global market access, global party finder’s. These are things third party websites give you for free. Cmon you can’t tell me yall can’t implement that into your app. I’ve made apps before with much more content. I’m a single human being. Imagine what you could make with a dedicated dev team.Be for real, it’s a money grab.Add those things and people will actually like your app.

All in all, having an app like this is a fine idea, but there’s not a lot to do with it. I like the idea of an app that allows players to communicate and schedule with one another, especially in FCs and Fellowships, but there’s virtually no other reason to have this app. Everything it does well, is done already by Discord or other community apps, and while I guess maybe accessing one’s inventory and market board without needing to log out is appealing to someone out there, I can’t imagine any kind of practical use for it here.I think there is a place for a Final Fantasy XIV companion app, this just isn’t the best use for one. When thinking of things I’d use a companion app for, I think of maybe making online store purchases to have waiting for me when I log in next, or maybe having a newsletter detailing in-game events, maintenance schedules, or sales or new items in the online store or Mog Station. It may also be a good opportunity to use the daydream feature and preview costumes on a screen that would allow for better visuals. As an app, it’s functional, but there’s no reason to really want to have it right now. This is also a bit of a nitpick, but having a blurry image of my character staring at me all the time on my Home Screen does not give me joy. Perhaps replace it with an idle animation, or an animated aetheryte crystal. Something to make the visuals a little more dynamic.

  • Handy mobile app

I’ve been playing final fantasy 14 since 1.0 and to have that ability to be able to easily access my own inventory as well as all my retainers inventories is helping for when I’m stuck somewhere in the real world and bored out my mind I can use that time to organize or purge space for extra room. The app also lets you see who in your contacts have also downloaded the app and has a easy accessible way to chat and coordinate events. The settings and display is well formatted and has each section easily shown for a mobile app. With that said, each time you want to use the market board for either purchases, sales, or adjustments you need to have in app currency called Kupo nuts or coins. With the free version each player gets 1 free kupo but a day with a maximum size of two where as the coins are purchased via transactions. While it doesn’t cause the spam of micro transactions and constantly putting it on the screen compared to other games, a player who is using the free version will feel very strict with the market board with this app. However, it’s not the end of the world since this is a free app altogether and if you do want that extra currency to use the market board on the go more often it’s easily accessible with transactions and also upgrading to the premium version if you choose to. Overall, this app is solid with social interactions as well as being able to have easy accessibility to inventories for people who range from causal and hardcore and recommend to all players.

  • Good idea, bad execution

This app has so much potential but the limitations on it hurt it. If you’re in a static raid group, it’s a great way to communicate and keep track of meet times. It’s also good inventory management too if you’re a hoarder and end up throwing what ever spare mats you in a random retainer. You can even sell Materials and stuff to NPC’s so that good in helping make space. However, people usually already have some other 3rd party form of communication and coordination for their raids and statics, so in the regard, this app has catching up to do. Also of note only one character can be registered to your companion account. Forcing players to choose if they play multiple characters.I feel that the biggest disappointment is in the auction board implementation. This was the one aspect that seemed to make this app even worth checking out in the first place. For every transaction or AB(auction board) listing, you must pay an in app fee. You’re awarded two currency pieces daily, however you can only hold a maximum of two. For non premium users that is. This in turn feels extremely limiting. All users can also purchase these currency coins for a fee. I’ve never been the type to spend money on any mobile apps. Even more so since I already feel that I pay more then enough for this game with a monthly subscription fee and extra fee for an extra retainer. The cash grab just feels too strong, the limits on users who don’t want to pay feel too stifling and prices for those who are willing to pay seem too high. All in all this is an inventory management system, with limited communication features, and a stifling in game currency transaction system.

  • Just another cash grab...

Look, I wanted more than anything to love this app. I felt like a little kid waiting for Starlight to come! Annnnd then it got here and I've been looking for the gift receipt so I could send the ugly sweater back asap. Seriously, the amount of disappointment cannot be contained. We pay monthly just to play the game - a game that already has a cash store that holds a whole heaping of great gear and mounts and emotes and things that many other MMO's would have just added come patch day. So to get that dazzling new gear that usually looks leagues better than what we can get smacking a raid boss around, we shell out an additional 18 bucks USD that much. That's 33 bucks, half of a brand new game! And that's assuming you don't want emotes, dyes, or extra retainers for needed inventory space to go with your game! FFXIV has been in a back and forth rivalry with WoW for years - most of the player base either came from WoW or still plays there as well. How could SE have possibly missed the convenience that the armory app provided players - for free. I'll be honest, I would've shelled out the extra five bucks a month for the extra retainer and added chocobo saddlebag space but.... being unable to list items to my heart's content because that ability is locked behind ANOTHER CASHGRAB????? Not ok. C'mon SE I've been a dedicated fan and player for years - I was with you through the horror of XI (and c'mon we know the first years were pretty bad). Don't get greedy and kill what was once so great. Give a little back to your fans instead of taking this time. I promise, you'll get heaps and bounds more love. (And probably some more cash too.)
