Otter brings artificial intelligence to the human voice. It’s an automatic transcription app: Whether you’re recording a voice note, a lecture, a business meeting, or a video conference, the app listens to what’s being said and automatically turns it into onscreen, searchable text. It also adds suggested keywords, which you can use to navigate through the recording when you play it back. You can use your device’s own mic, your AirPods, or a Bluetooth microphone, and the app can also transcribe from previously recorded audio. As you’d expect, the better quality the audio, the better results you’ll get.
The app has been transformative for me and the ability to dictate and transform top notch. BUT sometimes it just fails entirely and transcripts are lost. It seems to especially struggle offline. There have been other times when it records fully but not transcribes. I have to download the audio and import it into the app again to get the transcript. Better than a total loss but it shouldn’t require this. All said, it’s brilliant 95% of the time. But the times that fail are very costly.

I’m using Otter to capture the conversations so that I can distill the main points out of a conversation, including topics, decisions made and action items for a particular meeting conversation and context. The general role could be applied to a lot of different situations not just creative but any meeting where there are things to be discussed things to be decided a new actions and plans to be created.
It is easy and thorough. It’s voice transcriptions are almost flawless. It does have a slight problem differentiating different speakers when they are in a live setting and there is over 10 feet away however for transcribing sermons in church to business meetings, this is the go to app. I have no doubt.
It is so good that i got a business license as an individual. Not perfect, but i can trust the transcription and questions often enough (95% accurate).The problem is when i think I started it and didn’t, or worse when i did but it stopped on its on, and that crucial conversation is gone without capture.I’ve solved the first problem by disabling all calendar connections. If i could open Otter and start the recording with a single button, i would give this 5+ stars. If the recording stops mid-way through a meeting one more time, i may have to find an alternative, even as painful as that would be.
After you train this thing to learn who you are, it’s pretty good for dictation and reminders. But it is pretty terrible at a multi person conversation level.If you take this to a meeting with proper microphones and people speak in a orderly fashion than this thing is great, but if anyone ever interjects in between then this thing will miss it and combine it with the main speaker.I would like to see a button to separate speech. While the AI portion says it will make some corrections ultimately, those corrections don’t extend out to all portions of the conversation.At this time, December 2025 I have not been able to get the AI to update the summaries after it’s first impressions. But it will update the transcript.Maybe if you continually ask it to the speakers it will eventually work, but that’s just too confusing. There’s no notification that it has started or finished.
I had a terrible time canceling this charge. Tried to cancel on app and website. Thought it was canceled. It wasn’t. After multiple emails to cancel that went unanswered. I finally canceled at the payment source. I did receive a response, finally, from the service and it asked me to update my payment information. Not a chance. I had previously used this service with no issues. Not sure what happened here but it might be worth noting.
