I picked up the 256 GB model for a shared living room computer. The footprint is ridiculously small for how much power it packs and the processor speed is incredible. However, I’m already realizing 256 GB of storage wasn't enough. It's like buying a Ferrari with a 3 gallon gas tank.

Speed, Issue Free Upgrade from 2012 Mac Pro and older components

I got the 512GB as I was updating from a Mid 2012 Mac Pro (tower) with a terabyte of memory, about 80% in use. Also have a 2TB USB external drive with everything backed up. After almost 14 years of piling on the old tower with files, this is prime time to clean some house and when the price of external SSDs comes down I will add one if needed.

Paid 2300+ for that 2012 tower, so ZERO reason to whine about the cost of the mini ($1069 for 512GB). Looks like a newborn parked next to the BEAST, which will hit electronics recycle soon.

Was forced into a new monitor as my 23" Cinema Display (another $grand+ in 2006) had zero chance for further use. Got 20 years use, completely free of issues with it. Blessedly found a worthwhile 24" one for much less than a new Cinema Display in current market, and about half the cost of the 2005 model.

So all my peripherals, which date from 2012 (wired Apple keyboard with numeric pad), Audioengine DAC for headphones, 2007 cable modem, 2020 printer, ages older wireless mouse (do not care for the low-profile Magic toy) ALL hooked up with a vertical stand/Hub and one Apple USB-A to USB-C connector for the keyboard to be recognized.

Not one single driver or anything to download and BANG!....connected to the internet seconds after I made connections with 20-yr-old modem and the cable company's old wired router and fired up the Mini.

Wasted far more time getting logged back into web sites with the hyperspeed jump to OS27. Sweated every minute as I had never gone 14 years without upgrading. Was every 4-5 years when I was still doing design work. Was forced to upgrade as the tower was ages past current OS and thus browser versions and too many web sites became inaccessible.

God bless Apple for a still incredibly smooth upgrade path! Never expected it be problem free.

The baby Mac doth rock! Speed wise runs circles around Daddy Mac tower and only had to sell 5 shares of Apple to cover it and the monitor.

Do yourself a favor and buy as MUCH drive space as you can afford, OR simply add an external drive. SATAs are cheap, and the SSDs will come down.
