What is a Google Box?

Posted by Dave Winer, 4/11/02 at 6:40:23 PM.

A picture named myfrozengooglebox.gifA Google Box is a box that appears on a weblog that displays the results of a call over the Google API for a specific search term. It's a new idea that I think of as a long-term query, one you want to focus on over time. The term somehow relates to your area of expertise or interest.

I opened a Google Box for the term weblog on the Weblogs.Com home page on 4/9/02, it was probably the first one, and on the 11th a bunch more started when we released the Google Glue for Radio and Frontier.

To the right is a screen shot of a Google Box taken on 4/12/02. Click on the picture to visit the weblog archive page it comes from.

Who knows where this leads? I sure don't.
