The Honor 600 Pro has a great display and its 6.57 inches hit a nice sweet spot in our opinion. The display bezels are incredibly thin, which makes for a premium look at the front. Sharpness is excellent with the 1264 x 2728 pixel resolution, resulting in a pixel density of about 458 ppi.
Honor is particularly proud of the brightness, advertising a whopping 8,000 nits as its maximum. We did our standardized testing and measured around 846 nits by maxing out the manual slider. That's fine, but not really impressive in any way. Turning auto brightness and high brightness mode on helped the screen reach 1,766 nits. That is more than enough to be perfectly usable outdoors, even in the sun. On a 10% coverage, we saw the display hit 6,044 nits. That's an insane level of brightness and one that guarantees amazing HDR experience.
The minimum brightness we measured at point white was just under 1 nit, which means there will be no issues using it in the dark either.
On the other hand the panel on the Honor 600 Pro uses the simpler LTPS tech, meaning that it can't do truly dynamic refresh rate changes. Instead, it works in fixed steps, which in this case are 60Hz, 90Hz and 120Hz.
There are a total of three refresh rate modes to choose from in settings. Standard just locks the refresh rate to 60Hz. Dynamic refreshes at up to 120Hz while you are interacting with the display. However, in many apps, there is a 90Hz cap, and the display never goes up to 120Hz. High mode basically forces 120Hz mode constantly. It also unlocks an additional per-app menu where you can select which apps get rendered at 120Hz and which at 60Hz.
A weird thing we noticed is that in High mode, the system refresh rate indicator reports 120Hz basically all of the time. When we went in and tested the actual rendering inside Chrome via the popular Blur Busters UFO test, there was still a 60Hz cap imposed on rendering. And that wasn't the case in Dynamic mode. This makes the actual behavior of things like games very unpredictable. We hope this is a bug that can soon be squashed but as thing stand high refresh rate gaming is unreliable and takes some back and forth.
The Honor 600 Pro supports HDR, even if the official materials only mention it as certified for China's HDR Vivid standard. That said, in practice, both YouTube and Netflix provide HDR streams, so all is fine.
The phone also has the highest possible Google Widevine L1 DRM certification, allowing streaming services to offer up FullHD streams.
The Honor 600 Pro is equipped with a 7,000 mAh Si/C battery in its international -but-not-European variant. The European model, which we have for review, ships with a 6,400 mAh pack instead, still of the Si/C variety.
We ran our standardized set of tests and got solid results with an Active Use Score of just under 18 hours. That's not quite the chart topper, but the slightly older flagship chipset is certainly more power-hungry than the more recent chips. And it's not like the result is bad, it's just a bit short of what the battery capacity made us expect.
In keeping with the current industry trends Honor somewhat downgraded the charging capabilities of the Honor 600 Pro to maximize its battery capacity. While the Honor 400 Pro was capable of 100W wired charging, both the Honor 500 Pro and now the Honor 600 Pro are rated at 80W.
In our testing, the Honor 600 Pro reached from 1% to 43% charge in fifteen minutes and then 71% in thirty minutes, with a full charge taking around 48 minutes. While solid in the grand scheme of things, it full 10 minutes longer than the 400 Pro needed.
Mind you, we are testing the 6,400 mAh battery on our European unit for this review.
Just like its predecessors, the Honor 600 Pro supports 50W wireless charging, which is among the best around. The same goes for reverse wireless charging, which has now been upgraded to a rather impressive 27W. Honor specifically notes it is compatible with iPhone for fast charging speeds.
In terms of battery protection features, the Honor 600 Pro lets you set a charging limit at 90%, 80% or even 70%. There is also a toggle called Smart battery capacity, which promises to stop charging before the battery is actually full to its top capacity. It's not clear just how far off, though, and the phone still shows 100% charged in the process. Finally, there's Smart charging toggle that charges the phone to 80% and then keeps it there overnight before finishing the top up just in time for you to start using your phone.
The Honor 600 Pro has stereo speaker with one bottom-firing speaker and another top-firing one. This makes for great balance and stereo separation in the output. However, the speakers' positioning does make it fairly easy to cover both with your palms while holding the phone horizontally.
The Honor 600 Pro pushes out pretty clean and crisp audio, especially in the mids. Highs hardly ever get distorted as well, even at high volume. Do note that Honor decided to implement a 200% volume mode that sits one step above the 100% one on the volume slider. For whatever reason, however, the phone isn't actually louder in 200% mode. In fact, it is a bit quieter. We suspect this is a software glitch and we expect to enable louder but more distorted output once fixed.
Currently, the Honor 600 Pro did well enough to earn a VERY GOOD loudness score in our test.
The Honor 600 Pro is a little bit light on advanced audio features and extras. There doesn't seem to be a built-in equalizer. All you get is HonorSound, which is only meant to function with headphones and offers spatial audio and basic profile tuning.
Use the Playback controls to listen to the phone sample recordings (best use headphones). We measure the average loudness of the speakers in LUFS. A lower absolute value means a louder sound. A look at the frequency response chart will tell you how far off the ideal "0db" flat line is the reproduction of the bass, treble, and mid frequencies. You can add more phones to compare how they differ. The scores and ratings are not comparable with our older loudspeaker test. Learn more about how we test here.
The Honor 600 Pro is a 5G device with simultaneous SA/NSA Sub-6 connectivity on both of its Nano-SIM slots. A version with just one Nano-SIM slot exists as well. Our review unit has two Nano-SIM slots and eSIM support, but you are still limited to two connections active at any given time.
Location services include GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO, BDS, QZSS and NavIC. Local connectivity is covered by Wi-Fi 7. Unfortunately, it is only dual-band, so you don't get access to the still largely unutilized 6GHz spectrum. Bluetooth is fully stacked - V6.0 with LE support and a whole load af audio codecs: aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, aptX Lossless, LHDC 5. There is NFC on board as well as an IR blaster on the back, next to the cameras. No FM radio receiver or 3.5mm audio jack, though.
The Type-C port is backed up by a simple USB 2.0 data connection, which means a theoretical max throughput of 480 Mbps. There is support for USB Host/OTG, but nothing fancier like video output over Alt Mode.
There is a decent set of onboard sensors: a TDK-Invensense icm4x6xx accelerometer and gyroscope combo, a memsic mmc56x3x magnetometer and compass combo, an ams AG TCS3720ASLPRX light sensor and what seems to unfortunately be a virtual proximity sensor - a QTI UPD Proxy Proximity Sensor. At least it behaves like a virtual one and can not be read from third-party apps. It still does its job of turning off the display during calls very well. There is no barometer.
